Today Paul leads with “O foolish Galatians!”, so it is going to be a good one.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, in your presence, is where I find life. As I enter into your presence would you show me who you are and let me experience all that you have for me? Fill me with your Spirit in this time and renew my spirit.
We choose to rejoice in the power of God’s Word, with all his people in Psalm 67:
May God be gracious to us and bless us
and make his face to shine upon us,
that your way may be known on earth,
your saving power among all nations.
Let the peoples praise you, O God;
let all the peoples praise you!
Psalm 67:1-3
Today we are reflecting on the words of Scripture in Galatians 3:1-2, where we read:
O foolish Galatians! Who has bewitched you? It was before your eyes that Jesus Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. Let me ask you only this: Did you receive the Spirit by works of the law or by hearing with faith? Are you so foolish? Having begun by the Spirit, are you now being perfected by the flesh? Did you suffer so many things in vain—if indeed it was in vain? Does he who supplies the Spirit to you and works miracles among you do so by works of the law, or by hearing with faith— just as Abraham “believed God, and it was counted to him as righteousness”?
Know then that it is those of faith who are the sons of Abraham. And the Scripture, foreseeing that God would justify the Gentiles by faith, preached the gospel beforehand to Abraham, saying, “In you shall all the nations be blessed.” So then, those who are of faith are blessed along with Abraham, the man of faith.
Galatians 3:1-9
Paul’s tone has been pointed this far in the Book of Galatians, but it becomes more personal here. Paul refers to them as “foolish Galatians”. They are not just betraying the gospel that they once knew, but they are acting foolishly by believing the Judaizers. They are hurting themselves and their community. They are acting so foolishly Paul rhetorically asks them who has bewitched them! Paul is concerned for them. Today in this text we see that his focus is on their eyes. He says that it was before their eyes that Christ was publicly portrayed as crucified. This may seem odd because here they are in modern-day Turkey and they were not in Jerusalem to see Jesus actually crucified. So what is Paul saying? He is saying that he came and preached to them and through his words they saw Jesus crucified. Our eyes have the power to see the true gospel, but our eyes are also the gate of many temptations. Think about back in the Garden of Eden. What is described as Eve decides to eat from the Tree of the Knowledge of good and evil. Eve, “saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was a delight to the eyes”. What we choose to look at and focus on has the power to lead us to life or death. Our eyes have the power to lead us into foolishness and temptation. Paul tries to get them to refix their gaze on the true gospel. The gospel that they once saw they need to see again.
This is one of the beautiful parts about the church and living life amongst other Christians. Once a week we gather together for exactly this purpose. Throughout a week of temptation and losing focus on Jesus crucified we choose to gather to refix our eyes on the true gospel. To catch a vision of what Jesus has done for us. We get the privilege of doing that together. So all that to say, “See you Sunday!”
Jesus, open my eyes today. Let me see you crucified.
1)What role have my eyes played in my life? The good? The bad?
2)Where is Satan tempting me through my eyes right now? Remember my eyes are used for more than just seeing what is in front of me.
3)How can I see Christ crucified today in my life?
Lord, revive my heart today. If revival is to come let it begin in my own heart and soul. Fill me with your Spirit so that I can burn for you like a lamp that sits on a hill. Let me experience the steadfast love that you have for me and let that transform my heart to love you more and more minute by minute.
As I read the passage again slowly, I listen for anything that You would say to me in it. Help me see how to position my life in order to yield to your word.

Yielding Prayer
Lord, you are the one who died for me. Forgive me for all the ways that I allow my eyes to lead me into foolishness and temptation. Fill me with your Spirit and refocus my gaze upon you. Allow me to see and experience you crucified today.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 2 Corinthians 1:20:
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.
2 Corinthians 1:20
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
