Personal Worship

We end the week in 2 Peter meditating more on the Great and Final Day to come.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your throne remind me that you are in my midst. You are the mighty one who will save who rejoices over me. You quiet me with your love and you exult over me with loud singing. Meet me now and let me hear from you.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the promises of God that I find in Psalm 18:

 In my distress I called upon the Lord;
to my God I cried for help.
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears.

      Psalm 18:6

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

       2 Peter 3:8-10

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

It is really easy to get caught up in the guessing and wondering game of when Jesus will return and miss the beauty of God in it. Peter reminds us that the patience of the Lord is what is keeping that day from coming. Not patience just for the sake of being patient. He is patient for our sake. He is giving us time to have those conversations with our family members, friends, and strangers alike. We desire all to reach repentance and we still need more time for that. God is giving us more time, the question is are we using it or not?

Ask

Lord, I ask that you renew my desire to see people come to repentance and faith in you. I ask that you put someone on my heart today that I can pray to have an opportunity to share the gospel with.

  1. What is God teaching me about himself?
  2. Where do I need the Holy Spirit’s help when it comes to sharing the gospel with someone?
  3. Who is one person I can be praying for and talking to about the gospel?

Wake us up, Lord! Remind us to live aware, to redeem the time, to listen to your words, and to be willing to make a difference in the places you’ve called us to be. Thank you for your mighty power that acts on behalf of your children. Out of your kindness, please extend to us your grace and freedom. Cover us with your protection. Empower us with your strength. We ask for an awakening of your presence in our own lives and in the world around us, as never seen before. We pray for your help to be faithful to proclaim your name, and that all the enemy’s plans to silence the name of Jesus would be crushed.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

But do not overlook this one fact, beloved, that with the Lord one day is as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day. The Lord is not slow to fulfill his promise as some count slowness, but is patient toward you, not wishing that any should perish, but that all should reach repentance.  But the day of the Lord will come like a thief, and then the heavens will pass away with a roar, and the heavenly bodies will be burned up and dissolved, and the earth and the works that are done on it will be exposed.

       2 Peter 3:8-10

Yielding Prayer

Lord, give me obedience to share who you are with those around me. Give me the courage to do it and to do it often. I ask that you put a burden on my heart for the lost. Fill me with your Spirit and give me the opportunity and the words to say.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Romans 6:23:

For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord.

       Romans 6:23

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
