Personal Worship

We end the week looking at Zacchaeus a man who experienced Jesus and his whole life was reprioritized.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as the deer pants for water so my soul pants for you. My soul thirsts for God, for the living God. When can I go and meet with God? In this moment God would you meet with me? I desire your presence so make your presence known to me. Let me experience your love and mercy as I approach your throne.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the faithfulness of God displayed in Psalm 27:

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!
Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

      Psalm 27:13-14

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

He entered Jericho and was passing through. And behold, there was a man named Zacchaeus. He was a chief tax collector and was rich. And he was seeking to see who Jesus was, but on account of the crowd he could not, because he was small in stature. So he ran on ahead and climbed up into a sycamore tree to see him, for he was about to pass that way. And when Jesus came to the place, he looked up and said to him, “Zacchaeus, hurry and come down, for I must stay at your house today.” So he hurried and came down and received him joyfully. And when they saw it, they all grumbled, “He has gone in to be the guest of a man who is a sinner.” And Zacchaeus stood and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, the half of my goods I give to the poor. And if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I restore it fourfold.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, since he also is a son of Abraham. For the Son of Man came to seek and to save the lost.”

       Luke 19:1-10

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Zacchaeus’ major issue wasn’t his deformed body, but his deformed heart. He loved money above all else and did whatever he could to get it. He experiences Jesus and is forever transformed. When his heart is transformed so are his priorities. His new life brought about new actions in his life.

Ask

Lord, let me experience you like Zacchaeus did. An experience that leads to transformation. A transformation that affects the way I live and what I love.

  1. Who do I identify with in this story?
  2. Where do I need to experience Jesus?
  3. Where have my priorities become disordered and I need to repent?
  4. What does a life that prioritizes Jesus above everything and everyone look like for me?

Lord, do what you have done before. Let me see what you have done in history with my own eyes. Bring revival to this nation again. Meet us with a time of supernatural blessing through your Holy Spirit. Make hearts that are dead again alive in the promise of your gospel. Let us see your glory because it is all we are clinging to.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, meet with me now. Transform me by the power of your Holy Spirit. Show me where my life lacks obedience to you. Let me experience your kindness that leads me to repentance.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Matthew 6:33:

But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you.

       Matthew 6:33

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
