God shows Lot mercy by telling him of Sodom’s impending doom.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, your Word tells us, “All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work.” I ask now that you would do a work in me through your Word. Fill me with your Holy Spirit. Give me understanding and transform my heart.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Lamentations 3…
Who has spoken and it came to pass,
unless the Lord has commanded it?
Is it not from the mouth of the Most High
that good and bad come?
Why should a living man complain,
a man, about the punishment of his sins?
Lamentations 3:37-39
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then the men said to Lot, “Have you anyone else here? Sons-in-law, sons, daughters, or anyone you have in the city, bring them out of the place. For we are about to destroy this place, because the outcry against its people has become great before the Lord, and the Lord has sent us to destroy it.” So Lot went out and said to his sons-in-law, who were to marry his daughters, “Up! Get out of this place, for the Lord is about to destroy the city.” But he seemed to his sons-in-law to be jesting.
As morning dawned, the angels urged Lot, saying, “Up! Take your wife and your two daughters who are here, lest you be swept away in the punishment of the city.” But he lingered. So the men seized him and his wife and his two daughters by the hand, the Lord being merciful to him, and they brought him out and set him outside the city. And as they brought them out, one said, “Escape for your life. Do not look back or stop anywhere in the valley. Escape to the hills, lest you be swept away.” And Lot said to them, “Oh, no, my lords. Behold, your servant has found favor in your sight, and you have shown me great kindness in saving my life. But I cannot escape to the hills, lest the disaster overtake me and I die. Behold, this city is near enough to flee to, and it is a little one. Let me escape there—is it not a little one?—and my life will be saved!” He said to him, “Behold, I grant you this favor also, that I will not overthrow the city of which you have spoken. Escape there quickly, for I can do nothing till you arrive there.” Therefore the name of the city was called Zoar.
Genesis 19:12-22
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Genesis 19:12-22
Lot learns of what is about to happen and he is told to flee the city. But he lingered. Lot is terrified that when he loses everything he has that disaster will overtake him and he will die. Even when he is shown great mercy the idols of his heart still have a hold on him. He doesn’t know how he will survive without all of his riches in Sodom. He is the opposite of Abraham. When God told Abraham to go, he went immediately in faith knowing that God would provide. Lot doesn’t believe that at this moment.
Lord, show me the foolishness that grips my heart. Show me where I lack trust in you. Reveal to me the idols of my heart that would keep me in a place that is to be judged for its wickedness.
Lord, we come before You with humble hearts, yearning for Your presence to fill our lives. We seek Your Spirit to awaken a revival within us—renew our minds, purify our hearts, and ignite our spirits with Your love and truth. Let our communities be transformed by Your grace and let Your light shine through us in a dark world. May we be vessels of Your peace, hope, and justice, drawing others to Your saving power. Revive us, O Lord, and lead us to live fully for Your glory. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, pour out your mercy on me. I am a sinner who deserves judgment, yet your Son took that judgment on my behalf and I receive mercy. I know my heart is still prone to hold onto the idols in my life that lead me to judgment. Root those out in my heart now. Fill me with your Spirit and build my trust and faith in you.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Deuteronomy 31…
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.
Deuteronomy 31:8
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
