Personal Worship
We come to the famous passage where God tells Moses his name.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking to enter into your holy presence. I acknowledge your greatness, your majesty, and your love for me. Cleanse me from any sin or distraction that would hinder my communion with you. Open my heart and mind to be aware of your nearness. Holy Spirit, guide me and fill me with your peace. Help me to focus solely on you, laying aside my worries and burdens. I long to feel your presence, to hear your voice, and to rest in your embrace. Thank you, Lord, for welcoming me into your presence. May I be still and know that you are God.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in John 10…
I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then Moses said to God, “If I come to the people of Israel and say to them, ‘The God of your fathers has sent me to you,’ and they ask me, ‘What is his name?’ what shall I say to them?” God said to Moses, “I am who I am.” And he said, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘I am has sent me to you.’” God also said to Moses, “Say this to the people of Israel: ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has sent me to you.’ This is my name forever, and thus I am to be remembered throughout all generations. Go and gather the elders of Israel together and say to them, ‘The Lord, the God of your fathers, the God of Abraham, of Isaac, and of Jacob, has appeared to me, saying, “I have observed you and what has been done to you in Egypt, and I promise that I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt to the land of the Canaanites, the Hittites, the Amorites, the Perizzites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites, a land flowing with milk and honey.”’ And they will listen to your voice, and you and the elders of Israel shall go to the king of Egypt and say to him, ‘The Lord, the God of the Hebrews, has met with us; and now, please let us go a three days’ journey into the wilderness, that we may sacrifice to the Lord our God.’ But I know that the king of Egypt will not let you go unless compelled by a mighty hand. So I will stretch out my hand and strike Egypt with all the wonders that I will do in it; after that he will let you go. And I will give this people favor in the sight of the Egyptians; and when you go, you shall not go empty, but each woman shall ask of her neighbor, and any woman who lives in her house, for silver and gold jewelry, and for clothing. You shall put them on your sons and on your daughters. So you shall plunder the Egyptians.”

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

God is so gracious to Moses in this moment. Moses seems to be asking questions to disqualify himself from whatever God has for him. In the midst of Moses doubting himself God tells him his name. God reveals himself as “I AM WHO I AM.” The all caps there is not that I want you to yell it, but that we see that it is the proper name of God. That there was no time before he was. God even unfolds the whole plan for the Exodus to Moses. Throughout the plan, he shows Moses that he, God, will be the one accomplishing everything all Moses has to do is listen and obey.
Lord, I praise you that you are the God who is almighty and yet not distant. That you don’t make me wonder about who you are, but you tell me who you are. I ask that you reveal yourself to me today.
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, I praise you for who you are. Let me see how you reveal yourself and let me chase after you. I do not have to wonder about who you are, because I can see you throughout all of the Scriptures. Fill me with your Spirit and lead me today.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Exodus 14…
And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
