We arrive at our question from God for this week!
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking to enter into your holy presence. I acknowledge your greatness, your majesty, and your love for me. Cleanse me from any sin or distraction that would hinder my communion with you. Open my heart and mind to be aware of your nearness. Holy Spirit, guide me and fill me with your peace. Help me to focus solely on you, laying aside my worries and burdens. I long to feel your presence, to hear your voice, and to rest in your embrace. Thank you, Lord, for welcoming me into your presence. May I be still and know that you are God.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in John 11…
Jesus said to her, “I am the resurrection and the life. Whoever believes in me, though he die, yet shall he live, and everyone who lives and believes in me shall never die. Do you believe this?”
John 11:25-26
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then Moses answered, “But behold, they will not believe me or listen to my voice, for they will say, ‘The Lord did not appear to you.’” The Lord said to him, “What is that in your hand?” He said, “A staff.” And he said, “Throw it on the ground.” So he threw it on the ground, and it became a serpent, and Moses ran from it. But the Lord said to Moses, “Put out your hand and catch it by the tail”—so he put out his hand and caught it, and it became a staff in his hand— “that they may believe that the Lord, the God of their fathers, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob, has appeared to you.” Again, the Lord said to him, “Put your hand inside your cloak.” And he put his hand inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, his hand was leprous like snow. Then God said, “Put your hand back inside your cloak.” So he put his hand back inside his cloak, and when he took it out, behold, it was restored like the rest of his flesh. “If they will not believe you,” God said, “or listen to the first sign, they may believe the latter sign. If they will not believe even these two signs or listen to your voice, you shall take some water from the Nile and pour it on the dry ground, and the water that you shall take from the Nile will become blood on the dry ground.”
Exodus 4:1-9
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”
Moses continues his fight to not be God’s guy. The Lord wants to show him something though. He asks, “What is in your hand?” Moses being a shepherd has a staff. God takes that staff and supernaturally turns it from a dead stick to an alive serpent. God doubles down. He says I don’t even need anything I can use just your hand. He takes Moses’ healthy hand and turns it leprous. He reverses it as well. He takes something that is alive and makes it dead and then turns it back into a living, thriving hand. His third and final sign will be to take water from the Nile, the life source for the people of Egypt, and turn it into blood. God is making it clear to Moses that it is not Moses with the power, but God has the power and all he has to do is trust and obey.
Lord, I ask that when I am afraid or unsure that you would remind me who you are. I am nothing without your strength and power in my life so let me cling to it.
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?
Yielding Prayer
Lord, you are the God who has the power to take that which is dead and make it alive again. If I am honest I see so much death in our world and I am overcome by it. Let me take this story and these signs into my life in obedience trusting that you are the God who sees and is all-powerful.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Exodus 14…
And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”
Exodus 14:13-14
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
