Personal Worship

Today we look at our second pillar which is connecting relationally as a church.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, I seek to experience you through your Word and prayer today. Come meet with me now, and fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 23…

He makes me lie down in green pastures.
He leads me beside still waters.
He restores my soul.
He leads me in paths of righteousness
    for his name’s sake.

       Psalm 23:2-3

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

       Acts 2:42-47

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

From the very beginning even at creation, we see that we are not meant to live life alone. The first thing God said was not good was Adam not having someone in his life. In a culture that is suffering from loneliness, the church stands to be a beacon of light for those looking for a home. We have been called by God to not just be a random collection of individuals but to be the single body of Christ.

Ask

Lord, draw me into community. Community is difficult and hard at times, so fill me with your Holy Spirit. Give me a heart for those around me.

  1. What sticks out to me about the early church when it comes to community?
  2. Am I known by a community in my life right now?
  3. What are the obstacles for me to be in a life-giving community?
  4. Who can I reach out to today with no agenda other than checking on them?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

And they devoted themselves to the apostles’ teaching and the fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers. And awe came upon every soul, and many wonders and signs were being done through the apostles. And all who believed were together and had all things in common. And they were selling their possessions and belongings and distributing the proceeds to all, as any had need. And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts, praising God and having favor with all the people. And the Lord added to their number day by day those who were being saved.

       Acts 2:42-47

Yielding Prayer

Lord, you call your people your very body. Give me a sacrificial heart that loves those around me. Bring me a community where I am known and loved. Take away all my fears and anxieties when it comes to this

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Matthew 16…

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

       Matthew 16:18

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
