Personal Worship

Part of who we are as a church is a desire always to be growing spiritually.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, I seek to experience you through your Word and prayer today. Come meet with me now, and fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 23…

Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death,
    I will fear no evil,
for you are with me;
    your rod and your staff,
    they comfort me.

       Psalm 23:4

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Since we have such a hope, we are very bold, not like Moses, who would put a veil over his face so that the Israelites might not gaze at the outcome of what was being brought to an end. But their minds were hardened. For to this day, when they read the old covenant, that same veil remains unlifted, because only through Christ is it taken away. Yes, to this day whenever Moses is read a veil lies over their hearts. But when one turns to the Lord, the veil is removed. Now the Lord is the Spirit, and where the Spirit of the Lord is, there is freedom. And we all, with unveiled face, beholding the glory of the Lord, are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. For this comes from the Lord who is the Spirit.

       2 Corinthians 3:12-18

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

William Blake once said, “You become what you behold.” Verse 18 is the crux of this idea of growing. God’s people are being transformed into the same image from one degree of glory to another. This is absolutely astounding if you think about it. That right now God is growing us. The question is what is our role in it? Our responsibility is to behold the glory of the Lord and the Spirit responds in turn and grows us from one degree of glory to another. The trouble is there are someone things vying for us to behold them. There are all of these other idols in our life that want our attention and make promises that they cannot keep. Our goal to look more like Jesus and grow into his glory is purely based off of if we behold him.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you fill me with your Spirit and transform me from one degree of glory to another as I behold you.

  1. What am I beholding in my life? What takes up my time, my talent, and my treasure?
  2. What does it look like to behold Jesus in my life?
  3. Am I growing? If not, why?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, you draw me to yourself, but you don’t leave me where you found me. That I am on this planet for a purpose, let me behold you. In obedience, I rearrange my life to seek you daily. Break me of all the lesser idols that seek my attention and fill me with your Spirit.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Matthew 16…

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

       Matthew 16:18

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
