Prepare
for Worship

By: Ryan Brasington

Hey Church!

This week we will kick off a three-part sermon series in unity with dozens of other churches in South Florida through the Church United network. The main idea of the series is that Jesus is King (how appropriate, with an election looming!) and that the Bible tells us what His Kingdom is like. Quite the opposite from all worldly dominions, Jesus’ Kingdom is one of hope, unity, and humility.

There will likely be strong reactions to the results of the election next week, no matter which way it goes. People on both sides of the aisle believe that their party promises healing for the country while the other threatens nothing but certain doom. In either case, the ideological divide is so vast that it seems to be only a matter of time before philosophical disagreement will turn to kinetic warfare.

Church, this is our chance to stand out from the crowd by anchoring our hope in the true King, whose Kingdom will never tremble or fall, and by demonstrating the fruit of the Spirit to the unloving, sad, disturbed, impetuous, angry, mean, capricious, violent, and unhinged majority. I believe the Spirit of Christ is urging us: do not conform to the pattern of this world but be transformed by the renewing of your minds. Cast your vote according to biblical convictions and then lift your eyes above the tumultuous fallout to the One who is constant, faithful, and true. Do not be afraid. The Lord, your God, is with you.

Hear and draw confidence from Jesus’ words today:

Who of you by worrying can add a single hour to your life? Since you cannot do this very little thing, why do you worry about the rest?

“Consider how the wild flowers grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you, not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today, and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, how much more will he clothe you—you of little faith! And do not set your heart on what you will eat or drink; do not worry about it. For the pagan world runs after all such things, and your Father knows that you need them. But seek his kingdom, and these things will be given to you as well. (Luke 12:25-31)

Your brother,

Ryan
