Personal Worship

We meditate on this kinda crazy encounter with Joshua the high priest and the angel of the Lord.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Heavenly Father, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking your presence and guidance. You are holy, loving, and full of mercy. Draw me closer to you, that I may walk in your light and know your truth. Cleanse my mind, renew my spirit, and fill me with your peace. Teach me to trust you more each day and to follow your will with faith and love. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 61…

 Hear my cry, O God,
    listen to my prayer;
from the end of the earth I call to you
    when my heart is faint.
Lead me to the rock
    that is higher than I,
for you have been my refuge,
a strong tower against the enemy.

       Psalm 61:1-3

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Then he showed me Joshua the high priest standing before the angel of the Lord, and Satan standing at his right hand to accuse him. And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, O Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is not this a brand plucked from the fire?” Now Joshua was standing before the angel, clothed with filthy garments. And the angel said to those who were standing before him, “Remove the filthy garments from him.” And to him he said, “Behold, I have taken your iniquity away from you, and I will clothe you with pure vestments.” And I said, “Let them put a clean turban on his head.” So they put a clean turban on his head and clothed him with garments. And the angel of the Lord was standing by.

       Zechariah 3:1-5

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Kinda a crazy encounter we have today. A couple of things, though, to see. Firstly, Satan is the accuser. That is who he was, and that is who he is. Secondly, Satan is no match for the power of God, so we can trust in God in the midst of all of the accusations against us. Thirdly, this is a moment of salvation where pure vestments replace Joshua’s filthy garments. We need our filthy garments to be replaced by Jesus cause theirs no hope on our own.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you show me who you are. Show me the lies and accusations of Satan and help me fight against them.

  1. Where is Satan accusing you?
  2. Where do you need the Holy Spirit’s help to fight against them?
  3. Have my filthy garments been replaced by the pure garments that only Jesus can give?

Lord, visit your people again with the Holy Spirit in a supernatural way for a period of time. Pour out your glory, and let us see you. Bring us to repentance and transform our hearts.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, in obedience, I trust in your power above my own. The lies and accusations of Satan are too much for me on my own, so I turn to you. Help me and remind me of your truth in my life. Take my filthy garments and make them pure. I trust in you and you alone.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Isaiah 26…

You keep him in perfect peace
whose mind is stayed on you,
    because he trusts in you.

       Isaiah 26:3

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
