Personal Worship

We end the week in Romans, being assured of the Holy Spirit in our lives.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, you have risen from the dead, forever defeating sin and death. As I enter your presence, I am reminded of whose presence I am and how I am allowed to be here. I enter confidently, knowing that it is not by my merit but by what you accomplished during Holy Week. Speak to me now.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Titus 3…

But when the goodness and loving kindness of God our Savior appeared, he saved us, not because of works done by us in righteousness, but according to his own mercy, by the washing of regeneration and renewal of the Holy Spirit, whom he poured out on us richly through Jesus Christ our Savior, so that being justified by his grace we might become heirs according to the hope of eternal life.

       Titus 3:4-7

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those whom he predestined he also called, and those whom he called he also justified, and those whom he justified he also glorified.

       Romans 8:26-30

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

What a Scripture to hold onto. That in our weakness, the Holy Spirit is our helper. When we don’t even have words to pray, the Holy Spirit intercedes on our behalf. It gets even better for us because we have a God who works all things for good according to his purposes. When everything seems to be out of sorts, we can hold onto this promise.

Ask

Lord, I praise you that this is all true. I can hold onto this today. You see my weakness, and you give me your Holy Spirit. I can trust my life in your hands.

  1. Where do I feel weak and need the Holy Spirit’s help?
  2. What situation do I need to trust that God is working this for good according to his purposes?

Lord, when you speak, things are transformed. I ask now that you speak your glory over this earth. Pour out your Holy Spirit in a unique way and draw many to yourself. Do what only you can do.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose. For those whom he foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son, in order that he might be the firstborn among many brothers.        Romans 8:26-30

Yielding Prayer

Lord, thank you for who you are. In obedience, I will preach these verses over my life until I wholeheartedly believe them. Fill me with your Spirit and transform my heart into one of faith.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Proverbs 18…

The name of the Lord is a strong tower;
the righteous man runs into it and is safe.

       Proverbs 18:10

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
