Personal Worship

We begin a new three-week series titled “What is the Gospel? A Look at True Salvation.” Over the next three weeks, we will work through Creation, the Fall, Redemption, and Restoration.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach you today, I remind myself that you are the Creator of everything. You spoke, and everything came into existence. You formed Adam from the dust and animated his body with your breath. I ask that you do the same with me through your Word and prayer today. Animate my soul by the power of your Holy Spirit.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 8…

O Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!
You have set your glory above the heavens.
Out of the mouth of babies and infants,
you have established strength because of your foes,
to still the enemy and the avenger.

       Psalm 8:1-2

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

And God said, “Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear.” And it was so God called the dry land Earth, and the waters that were gathered together he called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

And God said, “Let the earth sprout vegetation, plants yielding seed, and fruit trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind, on the earth.” And it was so. The earth brought forth vegetation, plants yielding seed according to their own kinds, and trees bearing fruit in which is their seed, each according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

       Genesis 1:1-13

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

       Genesis 1:1-13

We begin at the beginning! Before God created the earth, it was without form and void. Darkness reigned. Then God speaks. Light enters the world and consumes the darkness. All that God will create will be by the power of his speech. When God speaks, it all happens. He does the same with the waters and the same with the dry land. There is a peculiar detail and wording of how God ends each day. He says there was evening and there was morning, the first day. The opposite of how we explain our day. The day begins in the evening and moves towards morning. Sleep symbolizes death all throughout the Scriptures. While God does not sleep, we as humans reading this know we do. Every day, in a symbolic form, we see resurrection. God, from the very beginning, is alluding to the fact that he is the God of resurrection. That through his Word, the power of resurrection comes. And what happens on the third day for the very first time? On the third day, life springs forth. It was good in the eyes of God.

Ask

Lord, by your Word, power comes. You are a creative God who brought about all that I see and know. I ask that you show me your power today.

  1. What sticks out to me about how God chose to create?
  2. What do I learn about the character of God from the fact that he is the Creator?
  3. What effect does the truth that God is a God of resurrection have on my everyday life?
  4. Where do I need the Word of the Lord to move in power in my life? Will I ask him to do it?

Lord, you are the God of all creation. You made this world and you made it good, until sin entered in through the disobedience of man. I ask that you would revive us. Pour out your Holy Spirit in a supernatural way. Create in us anew again.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was without form and void, and darkness was over the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

And God said, “Let there be light,” and there was light. And God saw that the light was good. And God separated the light from the darkness. God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And there was evening and there was morning, the first day.

And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.

And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the third day.

       Genesis 1:1-13

Yielding Prayer

Lord, let me see your power as Creator today. You spoke, and out of nothing, everything came. In obedience, I follow after you and trust you. There are places in my life that I need you to speak int, and I ask for that now. Show me your power and glory and fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Revelation 21…

And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

       Revelation 21:5

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
