Personal Worship

Today, we turn to Genesis and see that every wife needs companionship and unity.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Father God, as I come before you now, I quiet my heart and fix my eyes on you. I come not in my own strength, but trusting in your mercy and love. Speak, Lord—your servant is listening. Open my eyes, that I may behold wondrous things from your Word. As Psalm 119:18 says, “Open my eyes, that I may see wondrous things out of your law.” Let your Spirit guide me. Teach me, correct me, encourage me. I want to know you more and walk in your truth. Thank you for meeting me here.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 150…

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

       Psalm 150:6

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Then the Lord God said, “It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper fit for him.” Now out of the ground the Lord God had formed every beast of the field and every bird of the heavens and brought them to the man to see what he would call them. And whatever the man called every living creature, that was its name. The man gave names to all livestock and to the birds of the heavens and to every beast of the field. But for Adam there was not found a helper fit for him. So the Lord God caused a deep sleep to fall upon the man, and while he slept took one of his ribs and closed up its place with flesh. And the rib that the Lord God had taken from the man he made into a woman and brought her to the man. Then the man said,

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
    because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

      Genesis 2:18-25

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
    because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

      Genesis 2:18-25

In Genesis 2, God declares that it is not good for man to be alone. Out of his wisdom and love, he creates woman—not as an afterthought, but as a necessary and equal partner. Eve is formed from Adam’s side, a beautiful symbol of shared life, unity, and value. Marriage is not merely a human institution, but a divine design meant to reflect intimacy, partnership, and oneness.

Verse 24 declares that a man will leave his family and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh—emotionally, spiritually, and physically. This union is sacred and intentional. It reveals God’s heart for companionship, vulnerability without shame, and a love that mirrors his relationship with his people.

Ask

Lord, show me what it looks like to live in companionship and unity that you have called me to. Speak to me and show me.

  1. Do I see God’s design for marriage as beautiful, intentional, and good?
  2. In what ways am I embracing or resisting God’s purpose for oneness in my relationships?
  3. Am I creating space for vulnerability, trust, and unity in my marriage or close friendships?
  4. How can I better reflect God’s heart in how I relate to my spouse or those I love?

Lord God, I confess my need for you. So often my heart grows cold, distracted by the things of this world. But you, O Lord, are the fountain of living water. Revive me again. As Psalm 85:6 says, “Will you not revive us again, that your people may rejoice in you?” Breathe fresh life into my soul. Stir my affections. Awaken me to your holiness, your mercy, and your calling. Cleanse me, fill me, and send me out with a heart fully alive to you. Do a new thing in me, Lord. Let it begin today.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

“This at last is bone of my bones
    and flesh of my flesh;
she shall be called Woman,
    because she was taken out of Man.”

Therefore a man shall leave his father and his mother and hold fast to his wife, and they shall become one flesh. And the man and his wife were both naked and were not ashamed.

      Genesis 2:18-25

Yielding Prayer

Lord God, you saw that it was not good for man to be alone, and you made a way for deep connection and shared life. Thank you for the gift of relationships and the beauty of your design for marriage. Shape my heart to embrace your ways. Where there is pride, bring humility. Where there is distance, bring unity. I yield to your purpose for oneness, for love, and for honor in my relationships. Teach me to love with purity, to walk in unity, and to reflect your heart in all I do.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Revelation 21…

Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and the sea was no more. And I saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.

      Revelation 21:1-2

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
