Personal Worship

Every husband needs respect.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Heavenly Father, as I come before you today, I quiet my heart and mind to seek your presence. Thank you for the gift of your Word and the privilege of prayer. Open my eyes to see wonderful things in your truth. Soften my heart to hear your voice and respond with faith and obedience. Help me draw near to you, not just with words, but with a sincere and humble spirit. Lead me, teach me, and meet with me now.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 34…

Oh, taste and see that the Lord is good!
Blessed is the man who takes refuge in him!
Oh, fear the Lord, you his saints,
for those who fear him have no lack!
The young lions suffer want and hunger;
but those who seek the Lord lack no good thing.

       Psalm 34:8-10

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

      Ephesians 5:33

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

      Ephesians 5:33

Paul in Ephesians 5:33 calls husbands to love their wives as themselves and wives to respect their husbands. From a man’s perspective, this verse reveals a deep need for respect from his wife. Respect affirms his role, strengthens his courage, and speaks to his God-given desire to lead and protect. When a man is respected, he is encouraged to love more sacrificially. This mutual exchange of love and respect creates a marriage that reflects Christ and the church—full of honor, care, and unity.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you show me what you have for me today. Fill me with your Spirit.

  1. How does respect from my wife impact the way I love and lead in my marriage?
  2. Am I living in a way that makes it easier for my wife to respect me?
  3. How can I better communicate my need for respect without demanding it?
  4. In what ways am I growing in loving my wife as I love myself?

Lord, we come before you with humble hearts, desperate for your presence. Breathe new life into us, O God. Revive our love for you, rekindle our passion for your Word, and restore our joy in serving you. Tear down every idol, cleanse every sin, and awaken every heart. Let your Spirit move in power among us, that our lives would burn brightly for your glory.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

However, let each one of you love his wife as himself, and let the wife see that she respects her husband.

      Ephesians 5:33

Yielding Prayer

Lord, in obedience I yield to the roles that you have designed me for in this life. Meet with me and let me experience your love and grace today. Fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Romans 5…

For while we were still weak, at the right time Christ died for the ungodly.

      Romans 5:6

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
