Personal Worship
Joseph is unjustly thrown in prison.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Father, I come to you with a heart full of gratitude. Thank you for the blessings that remind me of your goodness. As I open your Word, increase my joy in you and teach me to delight in your truth. May my praise rise from a heart anchored in your presence.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Revelation 21…
And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Behold, the dwelling place of God is with man. He will dwell with them, and they will be his people, and God himself will be with them as their God. He will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death shall be no more, neither shall there be mourning, nor crying, nor pain anymore, for the former things have passed away.”
Revelation 21:3-4
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
But one day, when he went into the house to do his work and none of the men of the house was there in the house, she caught him by his garment, saying, “Lie with me.” But he left his garment in her hand and fled and got out of the house. And as soon as she saw that he had left his garment in her hand and had fled out of the house, she called to the men of her household and said to them, “See, he has brought among us a Hebrew to laugh at us. He came in to me to lie with me, and I cried out with a loud voice. And as soon as he heard that I lifted up my voice and cried out, he left his garment beside me and fled and got out of the house.” Then she laid up his garment by her until his master came home, and she told him the same story, saying, “The Hebrew servant, whom you have brought among us, came in to me to laugh at me. But as soon as I lifted up my voice and cried, he left his garment beside me and fled out of the house.”
As soon as his master heard the words that his wife spoke to him, “This is the way your servant treated me,” his anger was kindled. And Joseph’s master took him and put him into the prison, the place where the king’s prisoners were confined, and he was there in prison.
Genesis 39:11-20
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Genesis 39:11-20
Joseph resists temptation, but he is falsely accused and thrown into prison. Doing the right thing does not guarantee immediate reward. Yet God sees and will honor faithfulness in His time.
Lord, I ask that you show me who you are and what you have for me today.
Join us for Pray First, set your heart on God this week, asking Him to awaken a deeper longing for His presence.
But he said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.” 2 Corinthians 12:9-10
Paul understood a profound truth: his weakness was actually a strength because it forced him to depend on the Lord. There is a great danger in trusting our own strengths, giftings, and talents, as they can so easily lead to self-exaltation. The Lord exalts the humble, and it is in the very moment we embrace our absolute dependence on Him that He will rest His power upon us.
Pray: Lord, I confess I truly dislike feeling weak or inadequate. Forgive me for trying to prove my worth and for my deep-seated pride. Make me like Paul, who could boast in his weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities, for the sake of Your power resting on him. Thank You that my hope rests not in my ability to move my life, my family, or Your Kingdom forward, but entirely in Your power working in me and in us as Your Church.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Father, help me stay faithful when obedience feels costly. Give me endurance to trust You when I’m misunderstood or mistreated. May my life point to Jesus, who suffered unjustly for me.

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
