This weekend, we will unite with other South Florida churches and begin a three-week sermon series entitled “Love Like Jesus.” This annual partnership with Church United is an opportunity to show unity across regional and denominational lines and to study the same topic. This week, the main idea is that “loved people love people.”
In addition to sharing one message in common on these Sundays in November, this partnership is also an opportunity to sing a new song written specifically for this occasion. Created by some good friends of mine, “This Is What He Taught Me” is a beautiful song about living like Jesus in service to our neighbors, our families, and the world.
The lyrics and YouTube link to the song are copied below. Give it a listen and come to church ready to sing it out loud!
This Is What He Taught Me
(Verse 1)
Jesus friend of sinners, lover of the broken
You came for the sick and poor
And you found me (2X)
(Chorus)
I believe this, I am fully loved
I can’t lose this; the work of Christ is done
I’m a witness, I can’t help but speak
Hallelujah, here I am send me
Hallelujah, here I am send me
Hallelujah, here I am send me
(Verse 2)
I cannot get over
That I have your desires
My heart breaks for what breaks yours
You changed me
My heart breaks for what breaks yours
You changed me
<Repeat Chorus>
(Bridge 1)
Burdened for the broken, I cry out for healing
This is what He taught me
This is what He taught me
Praying for my neighbor, I cry out for mercy
This is what He taught me
This is what He taught me (2X)
(Bridge 2)
Breaking every yoke, bringing people home
This is what He taught me
This is what He taught me
A fire in my bones, I cannot control
This is what He taught me
This is what He taught me
<Repeat Chorus>
Your brother,
Ryan
