Personal Worship
The Wise Men didn’t show up in the stable that night, but they did arrive bearing gifts to honor Jesus.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, in the midst of this season, let me experience and celebrate what you have done. You left heaven and entered into time and space on behalf of your people. You came to die so that I can have an abundant life.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Galatians 4…
But when the fullness of time had come, God sent forth his Son, born of woman, born under the law, to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as sons.
Galatians 4:4-5
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Now after Jesus was born in Bethlehem of Judea in the days of Herod the king, behold, wise men from the east came to Jerusalem, saying, “Where is he who has been born king of the Jews? For we saw his star when it rose and have come to worship him.” When Herod the king heard this, he was troubled, and all Jerusalem with him; and assembling all the chief priests and scribes of the people, he inquired of them where the Christ was to be born. They told him, “In Bethlehem of Judea, for so it is written by the prophet:
“‘And you, O Bethlehem, in the land of Judah,
are by no means least among the rulers of Judah;
for from you shall come a ruler
who will shepherd my people Israel.’”
Then Herod summoned the wise men secretly and ascertained from them what time the star had appeared. And he sent them to Bethlehem, saying, “Go and search diligently for the child, and when you have found him, bring me word, that I too may come and worship him.” After listening to the king, they went on their way. And behold, the star that they had seen when it rose went before them until it came to rest over the place where the child was. When they saw the star, they rejoiced exceedingly with great joy. And going into the house, they saw the child with Mary his mother, and they fell down and worshiped him. Then, opening their treasures, they offered him gifts, gold and frankincense and myrrh. And being warned in a dream not to return to Herod, they departed to their own country by another way.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

The journey of the Magi reveals a faith that seeks, perseveres, and responds with worship. Guided by a star, these wise men travel far, driven by a holy curiosity that leads them to Christ. Their search contrasts sharply with Herod’s fear and the indifference of the religious leaders, reminding us that proximity to Scripture does not guarantee surrender to God. When the Magi finally encounter the child, they do not analyze or hesitate—they bow. Their gifts of gold, frankincense, and myrrh reflect honor, worship, and sacrifice, offered freely to a King who appears unimpressive by worldly standards. Matthew shows us that true wisdom recognizes Jesus for who he is and responds not with control or fear, but with humble, wholehearted worship.
Lord, teach me to live in faith as the Magi did. A faith that seeks after you even when it is costly. Let me worship you today.
Lord Jesus, in this Advent season of longing and light, awaken our hearts again. Stir in us a holy hunger for your presence. Revive what has grown weary, rekindle what has grown dim, and breathe new life into every place that has settled for less than your fullness. As we wait for your coming, come now—into our homes, our churches, our city, and our own hearts. Make room in us for your Spirit to move in power. Let your hope rise, your joy break in, your peace settle over us, and your love shine through us like a new dawn. Revive us, O Lord. We are waiting for you.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
King Jesus, you are worthy of my worship, not just my admiration. I lay down my desire for control, comfort, and recognition, and I bow before you in surrender. Like the Magi, lead me by your light, and give me the courage to follow even when the path is costly or unclear. May my life be an offering that honors you, and may I always choose obedience over fear.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Psalm 103…
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:12

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
