Personal Worship

On the eve of Christmas, we meditate on the heart of Mary! We hope you join us at 3:30 pm or 5:30 pm as we celebrate the arrival of our Savior!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, in the midst of this season, let me experience and celebrate what you have done. You left heaven and entered into time and space on behalf of your people. You came to die so that I can have an abundant life.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Matthew 1…

“Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a son,
and they shall call his name Immanuel” (which means, God with us).

       Matthew 1:23

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”

And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. For nothing will be impossible with God.” And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant of the Lord; let it be to me according to your word.” And the angel departed from her.

      Luke 1:26-38

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

In the annunciation, God’s redemptive plan enters the world through a young woman whose life is wholly and suddenly disrupted by grace. Mary is troubled, confused, and afraid—yet she listens. The angel’s words reveal a God who chooses the humble and accomplishes the impossible by his power, not human strength. Mary does not receive all the details, but she receives a promise: “Nothing will be impossible with God.” Her response is not passive resignation but active surrender. “Let it be to me according to your word” becomes one of the most courageous statements of faith in Scripture. Luke shows us that obedience is not the absence of questions, but the presence of trust. God’s purposes move forward through hearts willing to say yes, even when the cost is unknown.

Ask

Lord, give me a faith like Mary that says, “Let it be to me according to your Word!”

  1. What fears or questions might Mary have faced as she listened to the angel’s message?
  2. How does Mary’s response differ from simply agreeing with God intellectually?
  3. Where might God be inviting you to trust him with something that feels impossible?
  4. What would it look like for you to say, “Let it be to me according to your word,” today?

Lord Jesus, in this Advent season of longing and light, awaken our hearts again. Stir in us a holy hunger for your presence. Revive what has grown weary, rekindle what has grown dim, and breathe new life into every place that has settled for less than your fullness. As we wait for your coming, come now—into our homes, our churches, our city, and our own hearts. Make room in us for your Spirit to move in power. Let your hope rise, your joy break in, your peace settle over us, and your love shine through us like a new dawn. Revive us, O Lord. We are waiting for you.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God to a city of Galilee named Nazareth, to a virgin betrothed to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. And the virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “Greetings, O favored one, the Lord is with you!” But she was greatly troubled at the saying, and tried to discern what sort of greeting this might be. Yielding Prayer

Faithful God, you see my questions and my fears, yet you call me to trust you. I confess that I often want clarity before obedience. Today, I yield myself to your word and your will. Like Mary, I say, “Let it be to me according to your word.” Help me trust your power when the path is unclear, and shape my life to serve your purposes.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Psalm 103…

as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

      Psalm 103:12

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
