Personal Worship

Alfred Lord Tennyson once said, “More things are wrought by prayer than this world dreams of.” We end the week with the invitation from Jesus to pray and to see what he will do.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, I fall at your feet knowing there is no better place for me to be. Remind me that you are constantly interceding on my behalf. Fill me with your Spirit and the confidence to know my prayers are never in vain.

Rejoice and Reflect

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

“Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. 8 For everyone who asks receives, and the one who seeks finds, and to the one who knocks it will be opened. 9 Or which one of you, if his son asks him for bread, will give him a stone? 10 Or if he asks for a fish, will give him a serpent? 11 If you then, who are evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your Father who is in heaven give good things to those who ask him!

      Matthew 7:7-11

What an invitation for us from Jesus himself! He is calling us to ask. He is assuring us that our knocking is not in vain. Don’t give up! He is the Good Father who loves his children. He loves you.

Ask

  1. Will I trust that God is the Good Father even when my circumstances this year may tempt me to stop trusting?
  2. What am I asking for? What am I knocking about?
  3. How can I devote myself to prayer this year? What habits need to change?

Lord, you are the God who invites me to bring it all to you. May I respond with a firm yes day in and day out this year? What a gift you are. You are the Good Father who loves me enough to send his Son to die. Fill me with your Spirit.

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
