Personal Worship

We turn to Ephesians today!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, fill me with your Holy Spirit. I seek to hear you today, so speak for I am listening. I bow my heart and put aside distractions. In this time, I seek you and you alone.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Lamentations 3…

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”

       Lamentations 3:22-24

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Therefore, having put away falsehood, let each one of you speak the truth with his neighbor, for we are members one of another. Be angry and do not sin; do not let the sun go down on your anger, and give no opportunity to the devil. Let the thief no longer steal, but rather let him labor, doing honest work with his own hands, so that he may have something to share with anyone in need. Let no corrupting talk come out of your mouths, but only such as is good for building up, as fits the occasion, that it may give grace to those who hear. And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. Let all bitterness and wrath and anger and clamor and slander be put away from you, along with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving one another, as God in Christ forgave you.

      Ephesians 4:25-32

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

This passage calls us to live out the inward transformation Christ has already accomplished. Because we belong to one another, our words, attitudes, and actions matter deeply. Paul shows that obedience is not merely about avoiding sin, but about actively choosing truth over falsehood, grace over corruption, and forgiveness over bitterness. This passage reminds us that everyday choices—how we speak, how we handle anger, how we treat others—either grieve the Holy Spirit or reflect the new life we have received in Christ.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you show me what it looks like to give no opportunity to the devil in my life! Show me how you have transformed me, and go with me.

  1. Are there areas where my words have not reflected truth, grace, or love?
  2. How do I usually respond when anger or frustration rises in my heart?
  3. Is there any bitterness, resentment, or unforgiveness I need to surrender to God?
  4. What would it look like to speak and act in ways that build others up today?

Lord God, we confess that we have grown comfortable where we should have been hungry, and distracted where we should have been devoted. Breathe again on dry places in our hearts. Revive our hearts and make us alive for you and your glory!

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, I surrender my words, my reactions, and my attitudes to you. Teach me to speak truth with love, to handle anger in a way that honors you, and to use my words to build rather than tear down. Soften my heart where bitterness has taken root, and help me forgive as I have been forgiven in Christ. Lead me by your Spirit to live out the new life you have given me, for your glory.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in John 6…

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst. But I said to you that you have seen me and yet do not believe. All that the Father gives me will come to me, and whoever comes to me I will never cast out.

      John 6:35-37

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
