Personal Worship
The Ziphites betray David to Saul.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, you promise to be with your children in the midst of all of the circumstances in this life. Whether I find myself on the mountaintop or in the valley my desire in this moment is to be present with you. Pour out your Spirit on me now and let me see your beauty.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 118…
The Lord is on my side; I will not fear.
What can man do to me?
Psalm 118:6
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then the Ziphites went up to Saul at Gibeah, saying, “Is not David hiding among us in the strongholds at Horesh, on the hill of Hachilah, which is south of Jeshimon? Now come down, O king, according to all your heart’s desire to come down, and our part shall be to surrender him into the king’s hand.” And Saul said, “May you be blessed by the Lord, for you have had compassion on me. Go, make yet more sure. Know and see the place where his foot is, and who has seen him there, for it is told me that he is very cunning. See therefore and take note of all the lurking places where he hides, and come back to me with sure information. Then I will go with you. And if he is in the land, I will search him out among all the thousands of Judah.”

and vindicate me by your might.
O God, hear my prayer;
give ear to the words of my mouth.
For strangers have risen against me;
ruthless men seek my life;
they do not set God before themselves. Selah

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Psalm 54
The Ziphites go to Saul and reveal David’s hiding place. Their betrayal leads Saul directly toward David. Psalm 54 is David’s prayer during this moment. “Save me, O God, by your name… Behold, God is the helper of my soul.” David does not respond with revenge or bitterness. Instead, he brings his pain to God in prayer. When people fail us, betray us, or turn against us, our instinct may be anger or despair. But David shows a better path: take the hurt to God. He entrusts justice to the Lord and anchors his hope in God’s help. Even in betrayal, David believes that God is still working on his behalf.
Lord, I bring all my hurts, betrayals, and disappointments to you today. You are the God who hears and sees me in this moment.
Revive us, oh Lord! Meet with a broken humanity who is returning to the dust. Save us from ourselves and from the Enemy who seeks our destruction. Bring many to faith and deliverance in you. You are the God who saves, and that is what we desire to see.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, you know the hurts and disappointments I carry. Instead of holding onto bitterness, I bring my pain to you. Be the helper of my soul and guard my heart from resentment. Teach me to trust you with every injustice and to rest in your care.Lord, my soul needs you more than anything else. In every season of life, draw my heart closer to you. Help me thirst for your presence and delight in your love. Thank you for the people who encourage my faith and remind me of your promises. Strengthen my heart in you today.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Isaiah 41…
But you, Israel, my servant,
Jacob, whom I have chosen,
the offspring of Abraham, my friend;
you whom I took from the ends of the earth,
and called from its farthest corners,
saying to you, “You are my servant,
I have chosen you and not cast you off”;
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
