Personal Worship
Samson follows his desires.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I enter into this time, would you meet with me? Pour out your Holy Spirit on me now. Let me not just understand what you have for me, but let me experience you in the midst of it.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Proverbs 3…
Trust in the Lord with all your heart,
and do not lean on your own understanding.
Proverbs 3:5
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Samson went down to Timnah, and at Timnah he saw one of the daughters of the Philistines. Then he came up and told his father and mother, “I saw one of the daughters of the Philistines at Timnah. Now get her for me as my wife.” But his father and mother said to him, “Is there not a woman among the daughters of your relatives, or among all our people, that you must go to take a wife from the uncircumcised Philistines?” But Samson said to his father, “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.”
His father and mother did not know that it was from the Lord, for he was seeking an opportunity against the Philistines. At that time the Philistines ruled over Israel.
Then Samson went down with his father and mother to Timnah, and they came to the vineyards of Timnah. And behold, a young lion came toward him roaring. Then the Spirit of the Lord rushed upon him, and although he had nothing in his hand, he tore the lion in pieces as one tears a young goat. But he did not tell his father or his mother what he had done. Then he went down and talked with the woman, and she was right in Samson’s eyes.
After some days he returned to take her. And he turned aside to see the carcass of the lion, and behold, there was a swarm of bees in the body of the lion, and honey. He scraped it out into his hands and went on, eating as he went. And he came to his father and mother and gave some to them, and they ate. But he did not tell them that he had scraped the honey from the carcass of the lion.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Samson sees what he wants and immediately pursues it. His words are direct: “Get her for me, for she is right in my eyes.” Desire itself is powerful, but unchecked desire can lead away from wisdom. Even here, God remains sovereign, working through flawed decisions without approving them. Samson’s story warns that strong desire is not the same as clear discernment.
Lord, I ask that you show me where I am being led by my desires rather than by your Spirit. Fill me with your wisdom.
Revive us, Lord! Revive our hearts. Revive our spirits. Revive our desires. Revive our affections. Pour out your Spirit.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, slow me down when desire rises quickly. Give me wisdom to test what I want and courage to submit my impulses to your guidance.Lord, help me receive your boundaries as wisdom and not resistance. Shape my life so that what belongs to you is protected, strengthened, and made ready for whatever you desire to do through me.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Jeremiah 29…
For I know the plans I have for you, declares the Lord, plans for welfare and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Then you will call upon me and come and pray to me, and I will hear you. You will seek me and find me, when you seek me with all your heart.

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
