Personal Worship

We find Samson’s name in the Hall of Faith!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

My Father, your word speaks of your steadfast and unfailing love toward me. So, I come now to hide under the shadow of your wings and to simply enjoy that love! Let me “feast on the abundance of your house” and “drink from the river of your delights!” I know that with you is the fountain of life; fill me to overflow as I meet with you today!

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in 1 Peter 1…

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! According to his great mercy, he has caused us to be born again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance that is imperishable, undefiled, and unfading, kept in heaven for you, who by God’s power are being guarded through faith for a salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

       1 Peter 1:3-5

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

       Hebrews 11:32-34; 39-40

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Samson is remembered as faithful even amid all his mess. This passage reminds us that faith is not measured by flawless lives but by continued trust in God’s promises. The people named in this passage were marked by weakness, struggle, and unfinished stories, yet God commended their faith because they continued looking to him. Even Samson, with all his failures, is remembered here because faith restored his dependence on God. The passage also reminds us that many faithful people did not see the full fulfillment of what was promised during their lifetime, yet they still trusted that God was working toward something greater. Our obedience today often happens without seeing the full outcome, but faith rests in the certainty that God always completes what he has promised.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you let this be my desire. To be remembered like these men were faithful, but flawed.

  1. Where am I tempted to think my weakness disqualifies me from walking by faith?
  2. What promise of God do I need to keep trusting even if I do not yet see its full fulfillment?
  3. How is God calling me to obey today without demanding visible results first?
  4. Where do I need renewed confidence that God is still writing a greater story than I can see right now?

Lord, awaken my heart again to love you fully, seek you earnestly, and obey you quickly. Where my spirit has grown dull, breathe fresh life by your Spirit. Where distractions have weakened my devotion, turn my eyes back to you. Renew holy desire within me for your Word, for prayer, and for joyful surrender. Let revival begin deeply in me, so that my thoughts, words, and actions increasingly reflect your presence and your ways. Restore what has become weary, strengthen what has become weak, and draw me into fresh fellowship with you today.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

And what more shall I say? For time would fail me to tell of Gideon, Barak, Samson, Jephthah, of David and Samuel and the prophets— who through faith conquered kingdoms, enforced justice, obtained promises, stopped the mouths of lions, quenched the power of fire, escaped the edge of the sword, were made strong out of weakness, became mighty in war, put foreign armies to flight.

And all these, though commended through their faith, did not receive what was promised, since God had provided something better for us, that apart from us they should not be made perfect.

       Hebrews 11:32-34; 39-40

Yielding Prayer

Lord, thank you that faith does not depend on my strength but on your faithfulness. Where I feel weak, uncertain, or unfinished, teach me to trust you more deeply. Keep me from measuring obedience only by what I can immediately see. Help me believe that your promises remain sure even when the outcome is still hidden from me. I yield my expectations, my timing, and my desire for visible certainty to you today. Strengthen me to walk faithfully, trust patiently, and obey willingly, knowing that you are always accomplishing something greater than I can yet understand.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Joshua 1…

Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.

      Joshua 1:9

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
