Personal Worship

As we celebrate what God has done in the past, we also turn our hearts toward the God who is still able to bring new life, renewal, and revival today.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I come to you today I am reminded of who you are. You are the God who is faithful to his people. Not just for decades, but for thousands of years and will be faithful through eternity. I praise you and I ask for all that you have for me today by the power of the Holy Spirit through your Word.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 85…

Restore us again, O God of our salvation,
and put away your indignation toward us!
Will you be angry with us forever?
Will you prolong your anger to all generations?
Will you not revive us again,
that your people may rejoice in you?
Show us your steadfast love, O Lord,
    and grant us your salvation.

       Psalm 85:4-7

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”

So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.

Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”

       Ezekiel 37:1-14

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”

       Ezekiel 37:1-14

Ezekiel stood in a valley filled with dry bones and was asked a seemingly impossible question: could these bones live? Humanly speaking, there was no hope, but God was showing Ezekiel that life does not depend upon human strength or circumstances. When God speaks and his Spirit moves, what is dead can live again. Churches can easily celebrate what God did decades ago while quietly assuming that their greatest days are behind them. But the God who moved in previous generations has not changed. We can ask him with faith to breathe fresh life into us so that our church continues to be a place where people encounter the living God.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you give me faith to see that you can make even the dry bones resurrect and live. Give me eyes to see that with you nothing is impossible.

  1. Where in my spiritual life have I become dry or discouraged?
  2. Do I truly believe God can bring new life to situations that seem hopeless?
  3. Where do I need the Spirit of God to renew me today?
  4. How can I pray more intentionally for revival in our church and community?

Lord, breathe your Spirit upon us again. Revive what has become dry, awaken what has grown sleepy, and fill our church with a fresh hunger for your presence, your Word, and your glory.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Father, I surrender every place where I have relied on my own strength. Fill me with your Spirit and make my life available for whatever work you desire to accomplish.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Isaiah 43…

Behold, I am doing a new thing;
now it springs forth, do you not perceive it?
I will make a way in the wilderness
    and rivers in the desert.

       Isaiah 43:19

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
