Happy Saturday! I spoke at BCS Chapel this past Wednesday, and this month’s theme is “Traveling with Truth,” based on John 14:6, where Jesus says, “I am the Way, the Truth, and the Life.” We turned to John 10:1-6, where Jesus talks about how different flocks of sheep would gather in a communal sheepfold to stay safe. When it was time to leave, Jesus says this in John 10:4-5: “4 When he has brought out all his own, he goes before them, and the sheep follow him, for they know his voice. A stranger they will not follow, but they will flee from him, for they do not know the voice of strangers.”
In our lives, many voices try to get our attention. Strange voices claim to be the way, the truth, and the life, yet they bring only chaos, anxiety, and, in the end, destruction. That is why we gather as a community each Sunday to hear the voice of the Lord and train ourselves to flee the strangers’ voices in our lives. We hear the voice of Jesus in the worship songs we sing, the prayers we pray corporately, and the sermon each week. By the power of the Holy Spirit, we train our hearts to seek out the voice of Jesus and follow him amid the chaos of this world. As you prepare your heart to gather in worship tomorrow, hold on to this promise from John 16:33: “I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.”
Your brother,
Will
