Personal Worship
Today, we seek the freedom only Jesus can give, recognizing that genuine liberty comes from remaining in his truth.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I approach your presence today, I ask that you meet with me in power. Remind me that you are the God who frees. The wind and the seas obey your voice; set me free from the chains that imprison me today.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 130…
O Israel, hope in the Lord!
For with the Lord there is steadfast love,
and with him is plentiful redemption.
And he will redeem Israel
from all his iniquities.
Psalm 130:7-8
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”
Jesus answered them, “Truly, truly, I say to you, everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. The slave does not remain in the house forever; the son remains forever. So if the Son sets you free, you will be free indeed.
John 8:31-36
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”
Jesus teaches that those who abide in his word are truly his disciples, and that knowing the truth leads to freedom. He then confronts a deeper kind of captivity by revealing that everyone who practices sin is a slave to sin. We often define freedom as the ability to do whatever we desire, but Jesus reveals that our desires themselves can become the very things that enslave us. True freedom comes not from greater personal independence but from the liberating authority of the Son of God. Because of Jesus, we no longer have to accept sin as our master or believe that the destructive patterns of our past must determine our future. As we continue in his word and yield to his leadership, we learn to walk in the freedom that he alone provides.
Lord, I ask that you teach me what it means to abide in your Word in every step I take.
Father, revive our churches through the transforming truth of your Word. Break the power of habitual sin, expose the lies that hold people captive, and lead us into the freedom that comes through your Son.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?
So Jesus said to the Jews who had believed him, “If you abide in my word, you are truly my disciples, and you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.” They answered him, “We are offspring of Abraham and have never been enslaved to anyone. How is it that you say, ‘You will become free’?”

Yielding Prayer
Lord Jesus, I surrender the habits, desires, and patterns that have competed for authority in my life. Teach me to remain in your Word, obey your truth, and live under your gracious leadership.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Romans 6…
For sin will have no dominion over you, since you are not under law but under grace.
Romans 6:14
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
