Prepare
for Worship

Hey Church!

Hey Church!

One of my favorite songs that we sing in church is “Come Behold the Wond’rous Mystery.” For me, it checks all the boxes of a great congregational song:

✅  Memorable, easy-to-sing melody.

✅  Gospel structure and content. Verse 1 is about Jesus’ incarnation; Verse 2 is about His fulfillment of the Law; Verse 3, His substitutionary death; Verse 4, His resurrection, and the promise that we, too, will be raised with Him on the last day.

✅  Rich, poetic theology.

✅  Full of hope!

✅  Musical interest and development. It has a somber, mysterious tone throughout but reaches its highest crescendo with the words, “What a foretaste of deliverance! How unwavering our hope! Christ in power resurrected, as we will be when He comes!”

✅  All about the goodness of Jesus!

In preparation for Sunday morning, take some time to meditate on this song. The lyrics are pasted below, along with a link where you can listen on YouTube. Allow its poetry to move you! It’s the story of your redemption and proclaims a deep, abiding hope. So, contemplate its message before you come to church, and then sing it out loud will all of your heart!

Your brother,

Ryan

“Come Behold The Wondrous Mystery”

Verse 1
Come behold the wondrous mystery
In the dawning of the King
He the theme of heaven’s praises
Robed in frail humanity
In our longing in our darkness
Now the light of life has come
Look to Christ who condescended
Took on flesh to ransom us

Verse 2
Come behold the wondrous myst’ry
He the perfect Son of Man
In His living in His suff’ring
Never trace nor stain of sin
See the true and better Adam
Come to save the hell-bound man
Christ the great and sure fulfillment
Of the law in Him we stand

Verse 3
Come behold the wondrous myst’ry
Christ the Lord upon the tree
In the stead of ruined sinners
Hangs the Lamb in victory
See the price of our redemption
See the Father’s plan unfold
Bringing many sons to glory
Grace unmeasured love untold

Verse 4
Come behold the wondrous myst’ry
Slain by death the God of life
But no grave could e’er restrain Him
Praise the Lord He is alive
What a foretaste of deliv’rance
How unwavering our hope
Christ in power resurrected
As we will be when He comes
