As we look ahead to gathering together tomorrow morning, I want to encourage us to take a few minutes today to prepare our hearts for worship. Psalm 95:6 says, “Oh come, let us worship and bow down; let us kneel before the LORD, our Maker!” I love that simple invitation: come.
Sunday can become pretty routine if we aren’t careful. We wake up, get everyone ready, grab coffee, rush out the door, find our seats, and before we know it, the first song has started. Our bodies can get to church before our hearts do.
So sometime today, slow down for just a few minutes and remember why we gather. We aren’t coming tomorrow simply to attend an event or check something off the list. We gather because God is worthy of our worship, because Jesus has made a way for us to draw near, and because we need the regular rhythm of being reminded of what is true alongside our brothers and sisters in Christ.
Maybe take five minutes tonight and pray for tomorrow. Thank God for a few specific ways He has cared for you this week. Confess anything that has been competing for your attention. Pray for the people who will sit around you. Pray for those who may walk in carrying something heavy. Pray that the Lord would use His Word, our singing, our prayers, and our time together to point all of us back to Jesus.
Then come with expectation. Come ready to sing. Come ready to listen. Come ready to encourage someone. Come ready to be reminded again of the goodness of God.
See you tomorrow, church. Let’s come ready.
Your brother,
Ryan
