I read an interview this week with a worship leader and songwriter about how we can draw on one another for strength in difficult times. Sadly, some years ago her husband was unfaithful, they divorced, and it has been a long, painful road. But she said something about worshiping in community that really stuck with me:
We need the anthems and we need people to sing anthems especially when we don’t believe things. It’s part of community, where we lean into and we borrow other people’s hope.
I love that! “Borrow other people’s hope!” That’s one of the reasons why we worship together, and not just separately from home. Whenever we “Gather” (the first pillar of our Growth Track and key practice for a growing relationship with Jesus), we have the opportunity to encourage one another with our worship.
So ask yourself: “What can I do to be a blessing to others in worship this weekend?” You never know what the people in the row next to you might be going through, and your exuberant worship might just be the spark of hope they need. Pray for the Spirit’s help as you prepare this weekend.
Your brother,
Ryan
