Before we gather tomorrow, I want to encourage you to spend a few minutes remembering. Psalm 77:11 says, “I will remember the deeds of the LORD; yes, I will remember your wonders of old.”
One of the things God tells His people to do over and over again in Scripture is remember. Remember what He has done. Remember how He provided. Remember His promises. Remember His character. Apparently, God knows something about us—we are really quick to forget.
It is amazing how easily whatever is happening right now can begin to feel like the whole story. When things are going well, we can forget how dependent we are on God. When things are hard, we can forget all the ways He has already been faithful. A stressful week, a difficult conversation, uncertainty about the future, or simply being tired can narrow our vision until all we see is what is directly in front of us.
So sometime today, think back over the last few weeks. Where have you seen God’s kindness? Maybe it was an answered prayer. Maybe He gave you peace in a situation that should have overwhelmed you. Maybe someone encouraged you at just the right moment. Maybe He simply gave you enough grace for the next day.
And then remember the biggest thing of all: the gospel. Before anything else, remember what God has already done for us in Jesus. Christ lived the life we could never live, died the death we deserved, rose from the grave, and has brought us near to God. Whatever else is happening in our lives right now, that has not changed.
That is one of the reasons we gather each Sunday. We come together to remember. We sing because He has been good. We pray because He hears us. We open His Word because He has spoken. We encourage one another because we ALL need help remembering.
Take a few minutes today and make a short list of God’s faithfulness in your life. Then bring those memories with you tomorrow.
Your brother,
Ryan
