Psalm 5:3 says, “O LORD, in the morning you hear my voice; in the morning I prepare a sacrifice for you and watch.”
I love that last phrase: “and watch.”
David prayed with expectation.
Sometimes church can become so familiar to us that we forget what an extraordinary thing happens every Sunday. The people of God gather. His Word is opened. The gospel is proclaimed. We pray. We sing. Children hear about Jesus. People who are hurting receive encouragement. People who are wandering are reminded of truth. People who do not yet know Christ may hear the gospel for the first time. God is at work.
We may not always see everything He is doing, but Isaiah 55:11 tells us that His Word does not return empty. It accomplishes what He purposes.
So before tomorrow, pray with expectation.
Pray for the preacher. Pray for those leading worship. Pray for the kids and students who will hear God’s Word. Pray for visitors. Pray for people who are carrying grief. Pray for marriages that are struggling. Pray for those wrestling with faith. Pray that God would save, encourage, convict, restore, and strengthen.
And then tomorrow, watch.
