Personal Worship

We look at the Armor of God today.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, you are so gracious to me. Thank you that you are God over all things, and I can trust you. As I enter this time, fill me with your Spirit. Let me hear from you through the power of your Word.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 23…

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

       Psalm 23:5

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints, and also for me, that words may be given to me in opening my mouth boldly to proclaim the mystery of the gospel, for which I am an ambassador in chains, that I may declare it boldly, as I ought to speak.

      Ephesians 6:10-20

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Paul reminds believers that the Christian life is lived in the strength of the Lord, not in human resolve or self-confidence. The battle we face is real, but it is not primarily against people, circumstances, or institutions—it is spiritual in nature. God does not leave His people defenseless; He provides armor that enables us to stand firm rather than collapse in fear or compromise. Truth, righteousness, peace, faith, salvation, and the Word of God are not abstract ideas but daily provisions meant to shape how we think, live, and respond. Prayer anchors the entire armor, keeping us dependent on God’s power. Victory is not found in aggression or control, but in steadfast faithfulness, obedience, and perseverance in Christ.

Ask

Lord, remind me of the battle that I am in today and show me how to depend on you in the midst of it.

  1. Where have I been relying on my own strength instead of drawing strength from the Lord?
  2. How am I actively putting on the armor of God in my daily walk with him?
  3. In what situations do I need to stand firm in truth, faith, or righteousness rather than retreat or compromise?
  4. How can prayer become a more consistent and central part of my spiritual life?

Revive us, Lord! Break down the chains of the oppressor. Release us from all the dominions and powers of this world. Set your people free and let us walk in that freedom and not run back to slavery.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Mighty God, I confess that I often try to face spiritual battles in my own strength and wisdom. Forgive me for underestimating the battle and neglecting the armor you have provided. Today, I choose to put on the full armor of God and to stand firm in faith. Teach me to walk in truth, righteousness, and peace, and to depend on your Word and Spirit. I yield myself to you, trusting your power to sustain me and lead me in obedience, for your glory alone. Amen.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in James 4…

Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Be wretched and mourn and weep. Let your laughter be turned to mourning and your joy to gloom. Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will exalt you.

      James 4:8-10

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
