Personal Worship
We meet Ezekiel in the Valley of Dry Bones.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, I want to know you. I desire to know you more. Meet me in this place. Pour out your Spirit during my time with you. Speak to me now for your servant is listening.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 3…
But you, O Lord, are a shield about me,
my glory, and the lifter of my head.
I cried aloud to the Lord,
and he answered me from his holy hill.
Psalm 3:3-4
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
The hand of the Lord was upon me, and he brought me out in the Spirit of the Lord and set me down in the middle of the valley; it was full of bones. And he led me around among them, and behold, there were very many on the surface of the valley, and behold, they were very dry. And he said to me, “Son of man, can these bones live?” And I answered, “O Lord God, you know.” Then he said to me, “Prophesy over these bones, and say to them, O dry bones, hear the word of the Lord. Thus says the Lord God to these bones: Behold, I will cause breath to enter you, and you shall live. And I will lay sinews upon you, and will cause flesh to come upon you, and cover you with skin, and put breath in you, and you shall live, and you shall know that I am the Lord.”
So I prophesied as I was commanded. And as I prophesied, there was a sound, and behold, a rattling, and the bones came together, bone to its bone. And I looked, and behold, there were sinews on them, and flesh had come upon them, and skin had covered them. But there was no breath in them. Then he said to me, “Prophesy to the breath; prophesy, son of man, and say to the breath, Thus says the Lord God: Come from the four winds, O breath, and breathe on these slain, that they may live.” So I prophesied as he commanded me, and the breath came into them, and they lived and stood on their feet, an exceedingly great army.
Then he said to me, “Son of man, these bones are the whole house of Israel. Behold, they say, ‘Our bones are dried up, and our hope is lost; we are indeed cut off.’ Therefore prophesy, and say to them, Thus says the Lord God: Behold, I will open your graves and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will bring you into the land of Israel. And you shall know that I am the Lord, when I open your graves, and raise you from your graves, O my people. And I will put my Spirit within you, and you shall live, and I will place you in your own land. Then you shall know that I am the Lord; I have spoken, and I will do it, declares the Lord.”

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

The Spirit of the Lord leads Ezekiel out to a valley of dry bones and asks the question, “Can these dry bones live?” Ezekiel, being wise, knows that only the power of God can animate these bones back to life. He prophesies life over them, and they live and stand on their feet. This valley of dry bones now became an exceedingly great army. God likens them to the hopeless people of Israel. He will raise them and animate them back to life with his Spirit inside of them. This passage gives me hope as I look at the dry bones of this world we are currently living in. God is raising up people to bring these dry bones back to life with the power of the Holy Spirit.The disciples were shocked when Jesus said that it was good for them that he went back to heaven. They couldn’t imagine a world without him physically there. They listen, though, and wait for the arrival of this Holy Spirit that Jesus talked about. When it happens, it is nothing short of supernatural. There’s wind and fire. Languages are being understood. People from all different places are understanding each other, and they are just left perplexed. Perplexed is a great word for the work of the Holy Spirit because of the supernatural means of his work. It is the same for us today. It may not be wind and fire, but the Holy Spirit has not changed and is still moving.
Lord, I ask that you would bring life where all I see is death. Where there are dry bones, would you animate them by the power of your Holy Spirit? Let me see the exceedingly great army you are building now in the midst of this life.
O Lord, would you rend the heavens and come down? Pour out your Spirit on this world in a supernatural way. Let many come to faith in you. Revive our hearts and let us see you clearly.Lord, visit your people again with the Holy Spirit in a supernatural way for a period of time. Pour out your glory, and let us see you. Bring us to repentance and transform our hearts.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, you are the God who brings hope where there is none. Fill me with the power of your Holy Spirit, and let me be the hands and feet of your Word going out into valleys of dry bones. Let me see this army in my lifetime and revive our world.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Deuteronomy 31…
It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
