Personal Worship

We see Jesus meet with a Samaritan woman today with an offer of Living Water.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I enter into your presence I am reminded of who you are. You are the God who is holy and all-powerful, yet you desire to be with your people. In this time fill me with your Holy Spirit and let me experience all that you have for me.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 150…

Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
Praise the Lord!

       Psalm 150:6

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

A woman from Samaria came to draw water. Jesus said to her, “Give me a drink.” (For his disciples had gone away into the city to buy food.)The Samaritan woman said to him, “How is it that you, a Jew, ask for a drink from me, a woman of Samaria?” (For Jews have no dealings with Samaritans.) Jesus answered her, “If you knew the gift of God, and who it is that is saying to you, ‘Give me a drink,’ you would have asked him, and he would have given you living water.” The woman said to him, “Sir, you have nothing to draw water with, and the well is deep. Where do you get that living water? Are you greater than our father Jacob? He gave us the well and drank from it himself, as did his sons and his livestock.” Jesus said to her, “Everyone who drinks of this water will be thirsty again, but whoever drinks of the water that I will give him will never be thirsty again. The water that I will give him will become in him a spring of water welling up to eternal life.” The woman said to him, “Sir, give me this water, so that I will not be thirsty or have to come here to draw water.”

       John 4:7-15

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

John 4:7-15

Jesus breaks all norms when he finds himself at a well in Samaria. He interacts with this woman who has been abandoned by everyone around her due to her lifestyle. Jesus offers her this Living Water that brings ultimate satisfaction. This woman has been seeking satisfaction in men her whole live and this moment with Jesus changes everything for her.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you give me Living Water. I deeply desire to be satisfied and I can only find that satisfaction in you ultimately.

  1. Who or what do I go to for satisfaction in my life?
  2. Where do I need to repent and turn back to Jesus?
  3. If I was there that day how would I have responded to Jesus?
  4. How do I take hold of this kind of water from Jesus?

Heavenly Father, we come before You, thirsty and longing for Your presence. Let Your Spirit flow through us like a mighty river, cleansing our hearts, refreshing our souls, and renewing our minds. Wash away all that hinders us from drawing near to You. Let the waters of Your grace flood our dry places, bringing life where there was once barrenness. Lord, may Your love flow like streams of mercy, uniting Your people and awakening us to Your purpose. Revive us, O God, and let Your Spirit overflow, carrying us deeper into Your will.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, I turn to so many other things for satisfaction in my life. I turn from those things and ask for forgiveness today. Fill me with your Living Water and satisfy me in ways that only you can as the Creator of life.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Matthew 11…

Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.

       Matthew 11:28

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
