Personal Worship
David closes this Psalm with a reminder of what this world has to offer.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I enter into this time today, would you allow me to lay down all fears, worries, and anxieties at your feet? Allow me to set this time apart as a space to meet with the God who created all things and loves me personally. Fill me with your Spirit and give me eyes to see what you have for me in your Scripture today.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Isaiah 41…
fear not, for I am with you;
be not dismayed, for I am your God;
I will strengthen you, I will help you,
I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.
Isaiah 41:10
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work.
Psalm 62:9-12
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”
Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work.
Psalm 62:9-12
David reminds us that the whole spectrum of this world is just a breath and a delusion. We cannot find our hope on this earth. He also reminds us that if we are trying to scheme using the ways of this world, then we won’t find what we are looking for either. Power belongs to the Lord and the Lord alone. God spoke it to him once, and he had to remind himself. Steadfast love in the Scriptures is a covenantal love that won’t run out because it depends on God alone. He has us; we just need to trust him.
Lord, turn my eyes away from this earth and its ways back to you. The power belongs to you.
Lord, revive us! Pour out your Holy Spirit on your Church and make those who are asleep come alive. Do the impossible in this world and make it your own. Our hope is in you.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?
Those of low estate are but a breath;
those of high estate are a delusion;
in the balances they go up;
they are together lighter than a breath.
Put no trust in extortion;
set no vain hopes on robbery;
if riches increase, set not your heart on them.
Once God has spoken;
twice have I heard this:
that power belongs to God,
and that to you, O Lord, belongs steadfast love.
For you will render to a man
according to his work.
Psalm 62:9-12
Yielding Prayer
Lord, to you belongs the power and the steadfast love. You are never giving up on me. Fill me with your Holy Spirit and let me obey you today. It is when I am in accord with you that I find my hope and my peace.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in John 14…
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your hearts be troubled, neither let them be afraid.
John 14:27
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
