Personal Worship
We meet the Rich Young Ruler today who can’t walk away from his wealth to follow Jesus.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I enter into your presence I see you for who you are. You are holy, just, and good. When I see myself in comparison I know that I am a sinner in need of grace. I humble myself now and ask for your forgiveness. Where there is sin in my life let me bring it to you in confession and turn from my sinful ways. I thank you for meeting with me at this time. Pour out your Holy Spirit on me.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 103…
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and all that is within me,
bless his holy name!
Bless the Lord, O my soul,
and forget not all his benefits,
who forgives all your iniquity,
who heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit,
who crowns you with steadfast love and mercy,
who satisfies you with good

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
And a ruler asked him, “Good Teacher, what must I do to inherit eternal life?” And Jesus said to him, “Why do you call me good? No one is good except God alone. You know the commandments: ‘Do not commit adultery, Do not murder, Do not steal, Do not bear false witness, Honor your father and mother.’” And he said, “All these I have kept from my youth.” When Jesus heard this, he said to him, “One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me.” But when he heard these things, he became very sad, for he was extremely rich. Jesus, seeing that he had become sad, said, “How difficult it is for those who have wealth to enter the kingdom of God! For it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle than for a rich person to enter the kingdom of God.” Those who heard it said, “Then who can be saved?” But he said, “What is impossible with man is possible with God.” And Peter said, “See, we have left our homes and followed you.” And he said to them, “Truly, I say to you, there is no one who has left house or wife or brothers or parents or children, for the sake of the kingdom of God, who will not receive many times more in this time, and in the age to come eternal life.”

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

This man who we know from this passage and other gospel accounts is rich and young, and he is in a position of power. He comes to Jesus with a question about inheriting eternal life. He seeks to justify himself with his behavior unlike Isaiah thinking he is deserving. Jesus knows his heart and asks him to walk away from his wealth and he cannot do it. There are idols in all of our hearts that are an obstacle to following Jesus. Our hearts ouarer idol factories and we need to be on guard against them. We need to be honest with the Lord and ask for the Holy Spirit’s help in this.
Lord, show me where idols are stopping me from following you completely. Fill me with your Holy Spirit, convict my heart, and lead me to repentance.
Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, let me in obedience seek to give up all my loves and put you first in my life. Show me where I am being disobedient and lead me back to the gospel truth that I am loved and out of that love let me be obedient. Speak to me now and fill me as I go out from here.

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Deuteronomy 6…
The Lord bless you and keep you;
the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you;
the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
