Personal Worship

Today we look at what it looks like to serve generously as a church.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, I seek to experience you through your Word and prayer today. Come meet with me now, and fill me with your Holy Spirit.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 23…

You prepare a table before me
    in the presence of my enemies;
you anoint my head with oil;
    my cup overflows.

       Psalm 23:5

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

       1 Peter 2:19-12

Therefore, we are ambassadors for Christ, God making his appeal through us. We implore you on behalf of Christ, be reconciled to God. For our sake he made him to be sin who knew no sin, so that in him we might become the righteousness of God.

      2 Corinthians 5:20-21

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

      Jeremiah 29:7

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

      2 Corinthians 5:20-21

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

      Jeremiah 29:7

This set of verses points us to who we are as children of God. We are a royal priesthood, a holy nation, people for his own possession, and because of what Jesus has done we become the righteousness of God. These verses don’t end there. They show us not just who we are, but our purpose here in this life. When we come to faith God does not instantly take us out of where he has placed us on this earth. Instead, he gives us a mission while we are here. Jeremiah tells it to us clearly. That one of the reasons we are still here is to seek the welfare of the city where the Lord has placed us. We are to pray for it because in its welfare you will find your welfare. We don’t just want to be a church that stays inside of its own walls, but we want to go out into the city with the hope and the power of the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you show me my purpose when it comes to seeking the welfare of Fort Lauderdale. Show me where you have me and what I can do to further your kingdom.

  1. What gifts has God given me?
  2. What doors has God opened in my life?
  3. Where has God placed me?
  4. What gets me excited?
  5. What breaks my heart?
  6. Where can I serve generously this week?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light. Once you were not a people, but now you are God’s people; once you had not received mercy, but now you have received mercy. Beloved, I urge you as sojourners and exiles to abstain from the passions of the flesh, which wage war against your soul. Keep your conduct among the Gentiles honorable, so that when they speak against you as evildoers, they may see your good deeds and glorify God on the day of visitation.

      2 Corinthians 5:20-21

But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile, and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.

      Jeremiah 29:7

Yielding Prayer

Lord, you entered into this earth as a servant to all and let my life do the same. Open my eyes to the brokenness of my city and let me be the light in it. Show me how you created me and give me a passion for seeing your kingdom come to this earth. Let me not put off till tomorrow what the Spirit is moving in me today.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Matthew 16…

And I tell you, you are Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of hell shall not prevail against it.

       Matthew 16:18

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
