Personal Worship

Over the next three weeks, we will join other churches in our city for a united sermon series entitled “Jesus is King.” We begin this week meditating on the truth that Jesus’ Kingdom is a kingdom of hope!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your presence today fill me with hope. In a world that seeks my heart let me be found in you today. Meet with me now and let me behold your glory.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 27…

I believe that I shall look upon the goodness of the Lord
in the land of the living!
Wait for the Lord;
    be strong, and let your heart take courage;
    wait for the Lord!

       Psalm 27:13-14

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us in Christ with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places, even as he chose us in him before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and blameless before him. In love he predestined us for adoption to himself as sons through Jesus Christ, according to the purpose of his will, to the praise of his glorious grace, with which he has blessed us in the Beloved. In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of our trespasses, according to the riches of his grace, which he lavished upon us, in all wisdom and insight making known to us the mystery of his will, according to his purpose, which he set forth in Christ as a plan for the fullness of time, to unite all things in him, things in heaven and things on earth.

       Ephesians 1:3-10

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Paul begins his letter to the Ephesians with this prayer. He wants to remind them and us who God is and who we are because of what Jesus has done. Take a breath and remind yourself of who God says you are. You are predestined. Before the foundations of the world, God chose you. In love, he adopted you as his child. You are redeemed not by your works, but by Jesus’ sacrifice of his blood on the cross. You are forgiven for all of your trespasses. Nothing that you have done cannot be forgiven. He has lavished you with the riches of his grace. He has a plan to unite all things in him in heaven and earth. This is who God is and our hope is found in him.

Ask

Lord, fill me with your Spirit today. Remind me that I am who you say I am. I am not the sum of what I do or who those around me say I am. I am your child. I am loved and worthwhile because you have chosen me.

  1. Why is it important that God predestined me to be in his family before the foundations of the world?
  2. What does it mean that I am adopted by God?
  3. Where do I need to repent and seek the forgiveness of God?
  4. Where do I need to experience the riches of his grace that he has lavished upon me?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, let these verses be the sole foundation of my identity. Let me lay aside every weight and burden through the mercy of your grace today. Remind me that I am chosen by the God of all creation. I am adopted into your family. I am forgiven by the blood of Jesus. Let me experience how you lavish the riches of your grace on me today. Let me walk in that light.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Romans 5…

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

       Romans 5:1-5

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
