Personal Worship

We continue today in Paul’s letter to the Ephesians and we rest in the truth that the Holy Spirit is the guarantor of our inheritance in Jesus.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your presence today fill me with hope. In a world that seeks my heart let me be found in you today. Meet with me now and let me behold your glory.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 37…

 Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.
Delight yourself in the Lord,
and he will give you the desires of your heart.

       Psalm 37:3-4

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

       Ephesians 1:11-14

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

The Lord is working all things together according to his will, so we can rest in that. Our hope is in Jesus Christ and what he has done. God has an inheritance for us. We don’t have to strive for it, because the Holy Spirit has sealed the promise for us. The Holy Spirit guarantees us that we will acquire possession of it. Nothing can take it away from us. We will one day be in the presence of God with no more tears or suffering and that is our hope.

Ask

Lord. let me see the power and the beauty of the Holy Spirit in my life. Let me cease striving and trust in your plan today.

  1. What inheritance am I longing for?
  2. What does it mean that the Holy Spirit is the guarantee of my inheritance until I acquire possession of it?
  3. Where do I need the Holy Spirit’s help today? Will I ask for it?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

In him we have obtained an inheritance, having been predestined according to the purpose of him who works all things according to the counsel of his will, so that we who were the first to hope in Christ might be to the praise of his glory. In him you also, when you heard the word of truth, the gospel of your salvation, and believed in him, were sealed with the promised Holy Spirit, who is the guarantee of our inheritance until we acquire possession of it, to the praise of his glory.

       Ephesians 1:11-14

Yielding Prayer

Lord, seal in me the power and the promise of the Holy Spirit today. Some days being hopeful about the future is difficult. Remind me that you are in control and that the Holy Spirit will guarantee me my eternal inheritance when I head into glory with you. Give me a trust in that today.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Romans 5…

Therefore, since we have been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ. Through him we have also obtained access by faith into this grace in which we stand, and we rejoice in hope of the glory of God. Not only that, but we rejoice in our sufferings, knowing that suffering produces endurance, and endurance produces character, and character produces hope, and hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.

       Romans 5:1-5

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
