Personal Worship
Today, we remember that the greatest legacy we can leave is not a name people remember, but a life of faithfulness that helps others follow Jesus faithfully.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, you have made me your child by the sacrifice of your only begotten Son. You know me by name and the hairs on my head. I ask that you pour out your favor on me and show me your glory as I listen for what you have to say to me today.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 145…
One generation shall commend your works to another,
and shall declare your mighty acts.
On the glorious splendor of your majesty,
and on your wondrous works, I will meditate.
They shall speak of the might of your awesome deeds,
and I will declare your greatness.
They shall pour forth the fame of your abundant goodness
and shall sing aloud of your righteousness.
Psalm 145:4-7
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. An athlete is not crowned unless he competes according to the rules. It is the hard-working farmer who ought to have the first share of the crops. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
2 Timothy 2:1-7
As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”
Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
2 Timothy 2:1-7
Paul tells Timothy to take what he has received and entrust it to faithful people who will be able to teach others also, showing us that biblical legacy is always meant to extend beyond one person. The gospel is passed from one generation to the next through ordinary people who faithfully receive it, live it, and hand it on. Paul uses the pictures of a soldier, an athlete, and a farmer to remind Timothy that this kind of faithfulness requires focus, discipline, patience, and endurance. Most lasting ministry is not built through a few dramatic moments, but through thousands of ordinary acts of obedience over many years. We may not always see the fruit of our faithfulness, but God uses steady obedience in ways that reach far beyond what we can measure. The goal of a faithful life is not simply to be remembered, but to help others know Jesus, follow him, and continue the work long after our own part is finished.
Lord, show me what a life well lived looks like. Make me faithful in this life to what you have placed before me.
Lord, revive your church from generation to generation. Thank you for every faithful believer who has received the gospel and passed it on to someone else. Make us faithful with what has been entrusted to us. Raise up another generation who loves your Word, follows Jesus wholeheartedly, and carries the good news of the gospel into the world.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?
You then, my child, be strengthened by the grace that is in Christ Jesus, and what you have heard from me in the presence of many witnesses entrust to faithful men, who will be able to teach others also. Share in suffering as a good soldier of Christ Jesus. No soldier gets entangled in civilian pursuits, since his aim is to please the one who enlisted him. Think over what I say, for the Lord will give you understanding in everything.
2 Timothy 2:1-7
Yielding Prayer
Lord, I yield my life and my legacy to you. Help me care less about being remembered and more about being faithful. Give me endurance when obedience feels ordinary and patience when I cannot see the fruit. Show me who I can encourage, disciple, and strengthen so that what you have entrusted to me continues into the lives of others.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 1 Corinthians 15…
Therefore, my beloved brothers, be steadfast, immovable, always abounding in the work of the Lord, knowing that in the Lord your labor is not in vain.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
