Personal Worship

What do we do with the freedom we have from Christ? Paul calls us to love and serve one another.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Heavenly Father, as I come before You now, I quiet my heart and open my mind to your presence. Your Word is living and active—let it speak deeply to my soul. Remove every distraction, soften my heart, and make me receptive to your truth. Teach me, correct me, and draw me closer to you. May this time in Scripture and prayer not only inform my mind but transform my life. I come to you in humility and expectation, ready to hear and obey.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 103…

The Lord is merciful and gracious,
    slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love.
He will not always chide,
    nor will he keep his anger forever.
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
    nor repay us according to our iniquities.

       Psalm 103:8-10

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

      Galatians 5:13-15

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Freedom in Christ is not permission to live however we please; it’s the power to live in love. Paul reminds us that true freedom is found in serving others, not serving ourselves. When our lives are guided by the flesh, selfishness and division take root. But when we walk in the Spirit, love fulfills the whole law: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” This passage calls us away from using our freedom for self-gratification and toward using it for compassion, kindness, and humility. Love is the evidence of spiritual maturity. It’s how freedom finds its highest purpose, by giving itself away for the good of another.

Ask

Lord, let me walk in freedom that you have bought today. Let my life be characterized by the freedom to love and serve those around me.

  1. How do I sometimes confuse spiritual freedom with personal independence or self-centeredness?
  2. What does it mean to “serve one another through love” in my daily life?
  3. Where am I tempted to “bite and devour” others through words, attitudes, or judgments?
  4. How can I allow the Spirit to guide my freedom toward serving rather than consuming?

Lord, revive our hearts to love like you. Revive our eyes to see people like you see them. Revive our minds to think of your children like you do. I thank you for your love.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

For you were called to freedom, brothers. Only do not use your freedom as an opportunity for the flesh, but through love serve one another. For the whole law is fulfilled in one word: “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” But if you bite and devour one another, watch out that you are not consumed by one another.

      Galatians 5:13-15

Yielding Prayer

Lord Jesus, you set me free, not so I could serve myself, but so I could love and serve others. Forgive me for the times I’ve used my freedom carelessly or let pride and selfishness rule my heart. Today I yield my desires to your Spirit. Teach me to walk in love, to speak with grace, and to serve with humility. Let my freedom be a reflection of your heart, generous, compassionate, and willing to lay itself down. May my life bring unity, not division, and show others the beauty of your love lived out in freedom.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Lamentations 3…

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.
“The Lord is my portion,” says my soul,
    “therefore I will hope in him.”

      Lamentations 3:22-24

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
