We enter into our final Advent week as we anticipate Christmas Day!
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, in the midst of this season, let me experience and celebrate what you have done. You left heaven and entered into time and space on behalf of your people. You came to die so that I can have an abundant life.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in John 1…
And the Word became flesh and dwelt among us, and we have seen his glory, glory as of the only Son from the Father, full of grace and truth.
John 1:14
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
And in the same region there were shepherds out in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And an angel of the Lord appeared to them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were filled with great fear. And the angel said to them, “Fear not, for behold, I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God and saying,
“Glory to God in the highest,
and on earth peace among those with whom he is pleased!”
When the angels went away from them into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go over to Bethlehem and see this thing that has happened, which the Lord has made known to us.” And they went with haste and found Mary and Joseph, and the baby lying in a manger. And when they saw it, they made known the saying that had been told them concerning this child. And all who heard it wondered at what the shepherds told them. But Mary treasured up all these things, pondering them in her heart. And the shepherds returned, glorifying and praising God for all they had heard and seen, as it had been told them.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

The birth announcement of Jesus comes not to kings or scholars, but to shepherds—ordinary, watchful, and unnoticed by the world. In the quiet of the night, God interrupts their routine with glory and joy. The angel’s message reveals the heart of the gospel: “good news of great joy that will be for all the people.” Fear gives way to wonder, and wonder leads to obedience. The shepherds do not debate or delay; they go “with haste” to Bethlehem. When they encounter the child, they become witnesses, spreading what they have seen and heard. Luke reminds us that God delights to reveal himself to humble hearts, and that encountering Christ always moves us.
Lord, I ask that you instill in me humility and wonder at the fact that you would enter into this world as a baby.
Lord Jesus, in this Advent season of longing and light, awaken our hearts again. Stir in us a holy hunger for your presence. Revive what has grown weary, rekindle what has grown dim, and breathe new life into every place that has settled for less than your fullness. As we wait for your coming, come now—into our homes, our churches, our city, and our own hearts. Make room in us for your Spirit to move in power. Let your hope rise, your joy break in, your peace settle over us, and your love shine through us like a new dawn. Revive us, O Lord. We are waiting for you.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord God, when your glory breaks into my ordinary life, I confess that fear often rises before faith. Yet you speak words of peace and joy, calling me to trust you. I yield my fears to you today and choose to believe your good news. Like the shepherds, help me to listen, obey without delay, and follow where you lead. May my life respond in praise and faithful obedience to your will.

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Psalm 103…
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
