Personal Worship

As we wrap up our Weird Stuff series, we need to be reminded of who Jesus is, what he has done, and who we are in him!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your throne, remind me who you are and who I am in you. I humble myself before you, and I lay all my anxieties and cares at your feet today.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 37…

Fret not yourself because of evildoers;
    be not envious of wrongdoers!
For they will soon fade like the grass
and wither like the green herb.
Trust in the Lord, and do good;
dwell in the land and befriend faithfulness.

       Psalm 37:1-3

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

      John 19:28-30

There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

      Romans 8:1

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

      Romans 8:1

On the cross, Jesus crushed the head of the serpent that was prophesied in Genesis 3:15. He justified us by receiving and paying for our sin and, in turn, giving us his righteousness. Justification is the truth that we have been freed from the penalty of our sin. Jesus on the cross said, “It is finished…” Read that in reference to everything, but specifically Satan in this moment. All of his accusations against you have no bearing because of what Jesus has done. When he brings to you sins in your past, you can say in the Name of Jesus that has been paid for and has no bearing on me. When his accusations come, you can remind yourself that Jesus has defeated sin and death by his sacrifice on the cross. Satan has no power.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you remind me of what you have done on my behalf. Show me the love that caused you to sacrifice your life on the cross for me and for your people.

  1. Where do I need to encourage my soul by remembering Jesus’ sacrifice on the cross today?
  2. Where is Satan accusing me? Am I responding with the truth of the gospel to my own soul?
  3. How am I living in the truth that Satan has no power over me because of the Name of Jesus?

Lord, revive your people! Pour out your Spirit in a supernatural way for a season of time and bring many to faith. Wipe out the darkness and bind the enemy.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

After this, Jesus, knowing that all was now finished, said (to fulfill the Scripture), “I thirst.” A jar full of sour wine stood there, so they put a sponge full of the sour wine on a hyssop branch and held it to his mouth. When Jesus had received the sour wine, he said, “It is finished,” and he bowed his head and gave up his spirit.

Yielding Prayer

Lord, in obedience, I cling to the only hope I have, and that is you. When I am tempted to forget or to not apply what you have done, fill me with your Spirit. Let me fight against the accusations of Satan with the promises from your Word.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Exodus 14…

“The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

      Exodus 14:14

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
