Personal Worship

We end the week fixing our eyes on Jesus!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your presence, I remind myself who you are. You are a holy God. It is by grace alone that I am able to enter into this time with you. I thank you and praise you. Fill me with your Spirit now and speak to me through your Word and prayer.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 47……

God reigns over the nations;
God sits on his holy throne.

       Psalm 47:8

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Therefore, brothers, since we have confidence to enter the holy places by the blood of Jesus, by the new and living way that he opened for us through the curtain, that is, through his flesh, and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, with our hearts sprinkled clean from an evil conscience and our bodies washed with pure water. Let us hold fast the confession of our hope without wavering, for he who promised is faithful. And let us consider how to stir up one another to love and good works, not neglecting to meet together, as is the habit of some, but encouraging one another, and all the more as you see the Day drawing near.

       Hebrews 10:19-25

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Holiness matters in our lives, and it is crucial to hold fast to it. We also need to hold fast to the truth that we can only enter the holy places of God by the blood of Jesus. Thanks be to Jesus.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you let me experience your love today. Remind me what you have done for me.

  1. Where can I be grateful to Jesus today?
  2. How can I hold fast to the confession of our hope without wavering?
  3. Where can I encourage someone today?
  4. What does it look like for me to stir up one another to love and good works?

Lord, I repent of all of the ways I have chosen comfort or pleasure over obedience to you. Forgive me for all of the times I tried to be god for myself. Show me the beauty in obedience to you today.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, I praise you and thank you for your sacrifice on the cross. Let me draw near to you because of that. Fill me with hope in a world that lacks hope. Remind me that you are faithful. Let me stir up someone today to love and good works. Make me an encourager as I go from here.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 1 Peter 1…

As obedient children, do not be conformed to the passions of your former ignorance, but as he who called you is holy, you also be holy in all your conduct, since it is written, “You shall be holy, for I am holy.”

      1 Peter 1:14-16

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
