Personal Worship
We begin the week by reflecting on hospitality.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I approach your throne today I want to bury the truth you have for me deep in my heart. Restore my soul today. Fill me with your peace and your presence as I enter into this time.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 18…
I love you, O Lord, my strength.
The Lord is my rock and my fortress and my deliverer,
my God, my rock, in whom I take refuge,
my shield, and the horn of my salvation, my stronghold.
I call upon the Lord, who is worthy to be praised,
and I am saved from my enemies.

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
And the Lord appeared to him by the oaks of Mamre, as he sat at the door of his tent in the heat of the day. He lifted up his eyes and looked, and behold, three men were standing in front of him. When he saw them, he ran from the tent door to meet them and bowed himself to the earth and said, “O Lord, if I have found favor in your sight, do not pass by your servant. Let a little water be brought, and wash your feet, and rest yourselves under the tree, while I bring a morsel of bread, that you may refresh yourselves, and after that you may pass on—since you have come to your servant.” So they said, “Do as you have said.” And Abraham went quickly into the tent to Sarah and said, “Quick! Three seahs of fine flour! Knead it, and make cakes.” And Abraham ran to the herd and took a calf, tender and good, and gave it to a young man, who prepared it quickly. Then he took curds and milk and the calf that he had prepared, and set it before them. And he stood by them under the tree while they ate.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

The Lord and two angels show up to Abraham’s tent and in this incarnation they appear in human form. This is wild, but remember this is the all-powerful God. Abraham gets right to work being an amazing host and doesn’t just invite them in but he throws them a feast. Abraham is completely at their service during this whole story. There is something beautiful about ancient hospitality that we have lost in our modern era. These men are strangers to Abraham and he still treats them like royalty. This tells us a lot about who Abraham is. The family of God, the Church, should be like this as well with a wild amount of hospitality for the strangers in our midst.
Lord, I ask that you give me a servant’s heart like Abraham had. Let me see the stranger and invite them in as friends. Show me what a hospitable life looks like in my world.
Lord, revive us again! Let us see your glory. Pour out your Holy Spirit in a supernatural way that all can see. Bring many to faith and hope in you.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, you came as a suffering servant to welcome me into the family of God. I ask that you transform my heart to love outsiders and foreigners. Give me strength and wisdom to know what this looks like.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 2 Corinthians 1:20…
For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
