Personal Worship

We head to the Book of Romans today to see the thread that Paul gives us that ties our faith with Abraham’s.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, as I approach your throne today I want to bury the truth you have for me deep in my heart. Restore my soul today. Fill me with your peace and your presence as I enter into this time.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 24…

The earth is the Lord‘s and the fullness thereof,
the world and those who dwell therein,
for he has founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.
Who shall ascend the hill of the Lord?
And who shall stand in his holy place?
He who has clean hands and a pure heart,
who does not lift up his soul to what is false
    and does not swear deceitfully.
He will receive blessing from the Lord
and righteousness from the God of his salvation.
Such is the generation of those who seek him,
who seek the face of the God of Jacob.

      Psalm 24:1-6

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

In hope he believed against hope, that he should become the father of many nations, as he had been told, “So shall your offspring be.” He did not weaken in faith when he considered his own body, which was as good as dead (since he was about a hundred years old), or when he considered the barrenness of Sarah’s womb. No unbelief made him waver concerning the promise of God, but he grew strong in his faith as he gave glory to God, fully convinced that God was able to do what he had promised. That is why his faith was “counted to him as righteousness.” But the words “it was counted to him” were not written for his sake alone, but for ours also. It will be counted to us who believe in him who raised from the dead Jesus our Lord, who was delivered up for our trespasses and raised for our justification.

       Romans 4:18-25

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Paul reminds us that we do not read the story of Abraham just for fun, but it helps grow our faith. We too are called to have faith in the things unseen. None of us saw Jesus crucified and resurrected, but with the eyes of faith, we can have full assurance of what Jesus has done on our behalf. Faith is the root of it all!

Ask

Lord, it seems repetitive in my heart right now, but again I ask that you grow me in faith. There are so many things trying to distract me from having faith in you that I need your help to hold onto the promises that you have for me.

  1. What sticks out to me about this passage?
  2. What is the Lord trying to teach me today?
  3. Have I come to faith in Jesus and been counted as righteous in his eyes?

Lord, revive us again! Let us see your glory. Pour out your Holy Spirit in a supernatural way that all can see. Bring many to faith and hope in you.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, continue to do a work in my life. Give me obedience when you call on me. Pour out your Spirit on me and fill me with faith. Encourage my heart back to you today. Let me rest in your promises and what you are doing in my life.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 2 Corinthians 1:20…

For all the promises of God find their Yes in him. That is why it is through him that we utter our Amen to God for his glory.

       2 Corinthians 1:20

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
