Personal Worship
We continue in Creation today and arrive at the creation of man.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, as I approach you today, I remind myself that you are the Creator of everything. You spoke, and everything came into existence. You formed Adam from the dust and animated his body with your breath. I ask that you do the same with me through your Word and prayer today. Animate my soul by the power of your Holy Spirit.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 8…
When I look at your heavens, the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars, which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
and the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3-4
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
And God said, “Let there be lights in the expanse of the heavens to separate the day from the night. And let them be for signs and for seasons, and for days and years, and let them be lights in the expanse of the heavens to give light upon the earth.” And it was so. And God made the two great lights—the greater light to rule the day and the lesser light to rule the night—and the stars. And God set them in the expanse of the heavens to give light on the earth, to rule over the day and over the night, and to separate the light from the darkness. And God saw that it was good. And there was evening and there was morning, the fourth day.
And God said, “Let the waters swarm with swarms of living creatures, and let birds fly above the earth across the expanse of the heavens.” So God created the great sea creatures and every living creature that moves, with which the waters swarm, according to their kinds, and every winged bird according to its kind. And God saw that it was good. And God blessed them, saying, “Be fruitful and multiply and fill the waters in the seas, and let birds multiply on the earth.” And there was evening and there was morning, the fifth day.
And God said, “Let the earth bring forth living creatures according to their kinds—livestock and creeping things and beasts of the earth according to their kinds.” And it was so. And God made the beasts of the earth according to their kinds and the livestock according to their kinds, and everything that creeps on the ground according to its kind. And God saw that it was good.
Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness. And let them have dominion over the fish of the sea and over the birds of the heavens and over the livestock and over all the earth and over every creeping thing that creeps on the earth.”
So God created man in his own image,
in the image of God he created him;
male and female he created them.

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

God made the sun, moon, and stars. He fills the sea with living creatures and the sky with winged birds. He feels the earth with everything from creeping things to the beasts of the earth. He calls all of that good. He begins with man in a different way. He says, “Let us make man in our image, after are likeness.” So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. There’s a lot here, so we have to keep it simple. Firstly, God is already in community with himself, and he didn’t make man because he was lacking. He says “our” image. God created man in his own image. Every human bears the image of God. That’s pretty astounding that God would do that. Lastly, he creates two genders, male and female.
Lord, I ask that you let me see the image of God in humanity. Let me see how you have chosen to create and given us the ability to be in a relationship with the God who created all things.
Lord, you are the God of all creation. You made this world and you made it good, until sin entered in through the disobedience of man. I ask that you would revive us. Pour out your Holy Spirit in a supernatural way. Create in us anew again.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, what a thought that I am made in your image and likeness. What a thought that you chose to create not out of deficiency, but desire. Let all my interactions today be influenced by the fact that I have never met a mere mortal, but every human I interact with shares the image of God.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Revelation 21…
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”
Revelation 21:5
Closing Prayer
Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
