Today we remember that even in betrayal and darkness, Jesus willingly gives himself to establish the new covenant for us.
Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.
As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.
Prayer of Approach
Lord, by the power of your Word, all things were created that were created. I ask now that by the power of your Word you would create life in me. Where there is sin, bring conviction. Where there is repentance, bring forgiveness. Let me see you and love you more deeply.
I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Psalm 103…
He does not deal with us according to our sins,
nor repay us according to our iniquities.
For as high as the heavens are above the earth,
so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him;
as far as the east is from the west,
so far does he remove our transgressions from us.
Psalm 103:10-12
As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.
Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.
Now on the first day of Unleavened Bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying, “Where will you have us prepare for you to eat the Passover?” He said, “Go into the city to a certain man and say to him, ‘The Teacher says, My time is at hand. I will keep the Passover at your house with my disciples.’” And the disciples did as Jesus had directed them, and they prepared the Passover.
When it was evening, he reclined at table with the twelve. And as they were eating, he said, “Truly, I say to you, one of you will betray me.” And they were very sorrowful and began to say to him one after another, “Is it I, Lord?” He answered, “He who has dipped his hand in the dish with me will betray me. The Son of Man goes as it is written of him, but woe to that man by whom the Son of Man is betrayed! It would have been better for that man if he had not been born.” Judas, who would betray him, answered, “Is it I, Rabbi?” He said to him, “You have said so.”
Now as they were eating, Jesus took bread, and after blessing it broke it and gave it to the disciples, and said, “Take, eat; this is my body.” And he took a cup, and when he had given thanks he gave it to them, saying, “Drink of it, all of you, for this is my blood of the covenant, which is poured out for many for the forgiveness of sins. I tell you I will not drink again of this fruit of the vine until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.”

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

Judas sells Jesus for silver, yet Jesus still moves toward the cross with complete surrender. At the table, Jesus gives the bread and cup as signs of his body and blood, poured out for the forgiveness of sins. We see both the depth of human sin and the greater depth of Christ’s mercy. The betrayal is real, but the covenant love of Jesus is stronger.
Lord, I ask that you let me behold your beauty in the midst of your suffering. Let me see how you willingly entered into sacrifice for your people.
Lord Jesus, revive us through the wonder of your sacrifice. Let the cross soften our hearts, expose our compromises, and lead us into grateful repentance.
As I read the passage for the final time, I listen to how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer
Lord, we yield every hidden compromise to you. Keep us from betraying you with our desires, our choices, or our silence. Lead us to walk in covenant faithfulness.
Yielding Promise
And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in 1 John…
If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus
