Personal Worship

We need the Holy Spirit when it comes to this conversation.

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, you are God and I am not. I submit to all that you have for me today. You are the God who loves me and is sovereign over everything I will go through today. I do not want to accomplish this day in my own strength. Give me the strength of the Lord and pour out your Spirit to be what carries me through it all.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in Deuteronomy 31…

It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.

     Deuteronomy 31:8

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. I warn you, as I warned you before, that those who do such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control; against such things there is no law. And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires.

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

       Galatians 5:16-26

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

If we live by the Spirit, let us also keep in step with the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, provoking one another, envying one another.

       Galatians 5:16-26

The Book of Galatians is all about freedom. It is all about finding freedom in the work of Jesus Christ and living in that freedom by the power of the Holy Spirit.

Ask

Lord, I ask that you would pour out your Spirit on me. Let my life be in step with the Spirit. I need help and I ask that you would answer my cry.

  1. What sticks out to me about this passage?
  2. What does a life that is led by the Spirit look like?
  3. Where in my life do I need to repent and ask the Holy Spirit for help?

Throughout Pray First, which is the first 21 days of our season, you will receive a verse and prayer prompt as we seek the Lord together.

“Do not neglect to do good and to share what you have, for such sacrifices are pleasing to God.”

       Hebrews 13:16

Gracious Lord, I thank you for providing for my every need! Help me, in turn, to keep my eyes open for ways I could offer pleasing sacrifices to you by doing good and sharing with others as you lead! And now, as I come before you, bring to mind someone who has a need I can help meet…

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do. But if you are led by the Spirit, you are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are evident: sexual immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmity, strife, jealousy, fits of anger, rivalries, dissensions, divisions, envy, drunkenness, orgies, and things like these. Yielding Prayer

Lord, my prayer is simple today, “Come Holy Spirit invade my life.”

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Lamentations 3…

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases;
    his mercies never come to an end;
they are new every morning;
    great is your faithfulness.

       Lamentations 3:22-23

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
