Personal Worship

Our question from God comes in the story of Moses this week!

Together we will pray (P.R.A.Y.) each day – ‘P’: Pausing to be still as we come into the presence of the Lord. ‘R’: Rejoicing as we remember who our God is and what He has done, and Reflecting on His word. ‘A’: Asking God to help us and others. And ‘Y’: yielding to His will in accordance with His word.

Pause

As I come before you to pray, I still my thoughts and quiet my mind. I seek to make you the center of my focus.

Prayer of Approach

Lord, I come before you with a humble heart, seeking to enter into your holy presence. I acknowledge your greatness, your majesty, and your love for me. Cleanse me from any sin or distraction that would hinder my communion with you. Open my heart and mind to be aware of your nearness. Holy Spirit, guide me and fill me with your peace. Help me to focus solely on you, laying aside my worries and burdens. I long to feel your presence, to hear your voice, and to rest in your embrace. Thank you, Lord, for welcoming me into your presence. May I be still and know that you are God.

Rejoice and Reflect

I choose to rejoice, with all God’s people, in the powerful promise that God gives us in John 6…

Jesus said to them, “I am the bread of life; whoever comes to me shall not hunger, and whoever believes in me shall never thirst.

     John 6:35

As you read the passages below, ask the Lord to cause a word or phrase to stand out to you.

Now Moses was keeping the flock of his father-in-law, Jethro, the priest of Midian, and he led his flock to the west side of the wilderness and came to Horeb, the mountain of God. And the angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire out of the midst of a bush. He looked, and behold, the bush was burning, yet it was not consumed. And Moses said, “I will turn aside to see this great sight, why the bush is not burned.” When the Lord saw that he turned aside to see, God called to him out of the bush, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” Then he said, “Do not come near; take your sandals off your feet, for the place on which you are standing is holy ground.” And he said, “I am the God of your father, the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look at God.

       Exodus 3:1-5

As I reread the passage, I reflect on the questions, “How is my life touched by this word?” and “How does this passage connect with my life?”

We meet Moses today at another transition point in his journey. Moses spent the decades leading up to this tending his father-in-law’s sheep in Midian after he was forced to flee Egypt after murdering an Egyptian. His life has been quite the roller coaster and it seems like at least in Moses’ mind he was going to be content to live a peaceful life in the wilderness, but God had something else for him. So he goes and meets with Moses in this miraculous way through a burning bush that is not devoured. A couple of things to point out today. Moses turned aside to see this great sight. This was not on his path that day and yet he took a detour to see it and it was there that he met with God. What attribute of his nature does God lead with? His holiness. He reminds Moses that he is holy, but in that holiness he is relational.

Ask

Lord, you are the God who is holy, and yet you still call broken sinners into a relationship with you. Let me experience that today.

  1. What sticks out to me from the passage today?
  2. Is my life so busy that there is no margin to take detours?
  3. What does it look like for me to serve a holy God?
  4. What does a relationship with God look like?

Heavenly Father, we come before you, seeking revival for our nation. Restore our hearts, turning us back to your ways. Pour out your Spirit across America, igniting faith, hope, and love in every corner. Heal our divisions, renew our minds, and guide our leaders with wisdom and humility. May your truth and grace sweep through this land, transforming lives and drawing us closer to You.

Yield

As I read the passage for the final time, I listen for how the Lord is inviting me to respond to him. Where in my life do I need to yield in obedience to what he has for me?

Yielding Prayer

Lord, you are God and I am not. You are holy and I am sinful. You draw me into a relationship with you and you let me experience who you are. Lord, give me obedience to your Word today. Fill me by the power of your Holy Spirit to be more concerned about what the holy God thinks than what this world thinks. Let me passionately pursue you today.

Yielding Promise

And now, as I move into the day ahead, the Lord who loves me reminds me in Exodus 14…

And Moses said to the people, “Fear not, stand firm, and see the salvation of the Lord, which he will work for you today. For the Egyptians whom you see today, you shall never see again. The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent.”

       Exodus 14:13-14

Closing Prayer

Lord, enable me, by the power of the Holy Spirit, to love you today with all of my heart, soul, mind, and strength; and to serve you today, by loving and caring for others as I do my own self; and, to exalt you today, by telling the people in my world about the abundant and eternal life found only through faith in Jesus.
